Hi all,

So heading off on Wednesday in J on QF, currently have seat 7F and (for me) a preferred (non-aisle) window seat.

T-80 has passed and I've seen all seats opened up, and there are a few closer up front to select. But with someone of no status, am I more at risk of losing my seat selection going forward

There is always the risk of losing your seat selection should a VIP want your chosen seat, but you should be fairly safe

Not sure what aircraft you're on, but I'd think 7F would be fairly safe.
Moving forward would be reasonably safe. Yes, people can be moved, but it is not the norm.

On a 787-9, I agree 7F looks good, just wondering if there's any benefit at all moving forward then! I think I might just leave it then as looking at the seat map below there's 1F that may be better...

Doubt it's a 787-9 if 7F is a window seat...

1K has a larger footwell space so better for sleeping (if that's a factor). Will get served quicker too. I'd snap it up if available.

Seems T-80 isn't working!!! So bad QF! :(

The seats are showing as available, but unable to select :(

I have noticed on a couple of flights recently (not mine) that T-80 did not yield any extra openings for non status flyers (international). eg open seats I can see on EF not open for the no status pax. Very unusual. I wonder if it's a real change made on purpose or a "feature" with specific flights (such as flights that have reached their pre-check in seat allocation limit).

However once changing a seat if more open up to allocate at T-80 or whatever I see no more or less a chance of losing the allocation to someone who has had their allocation for 3 months. If it's a valid seat assignment made it's as valid as any others IMO.

Oh, this is not a T-80 thing, this is a bug!! I had this happen to me with a booking I'd made a week or so back for flight in a month or so.. Could not select anything. I tried boty AY and UL sites and they also barfed out. then a day or so late when I was about to SMS or call, I tried it and it worked.

maybe text QF (given it's close in to departure) and ask for the seat to be assigned by them?

I think this is a bug.

Thanks @RichardMEL , let me try to SMS QF and see if I'm able to select row 4 :)

So, an update, I called up QF Premium CC last night and they informed me that the flight I'm looking to select seats on is now "locked" for any changes - assigning seats, changing seats, selecting meal choices, OLCI etc.

Not sure what they meant by "locked", but, in essence, no one can do anything on this flight and everyone needs to go to the airport, check-in, select seats etc !

I don't know about meal choices (and OLCI? Well that only opens 24h before anyway - think that's a bit of a furphy) but for flights there is a certain % of seats filled where flights will go into a sort of lock out for advance seat selection. That's been a thing for years. I can only presume that's what they mean.

but given that seat map you showed it doesn't LOOK super full so.... I don't know what that deal is..

unless it's gone under airport control for some reason.

I'd be tempted to call again, or use the text or chat service or something. I am not too sure I trust what you were told given the comment about meal choices and OLCI.

Thanks, @RichardMEL , Let me call them again today and see how I go. I will report on

@RichardMEL : Update : Gave a call to the Premium CC, the agent was so helpful and she selected the seats I wanted :)

I asked about last night, she said that sometimes the airport puts a hold on the seat selections and that's prolly what would have happened when I tried to select a seat and called the CC last night

Thanks for your tip & advice, @RichardMEL :)

Domestic flights go to airport control at T-80. It's no co-incidence that the seat maps change at that time.

yes, but at T-80 on domestic usually pax can still select opened up seats.. or used to be able to.

I have a silver co-worker who loves bragging about grabbing a seat in row 4....

If I may add, I was able to see empty seats, but when I clicked on them, nothing happened ... so this is, as @RichardMEL pointed out earlier, a bug/defect in the system

or it may be a change by QF deliberately for reasons.

Though as I noted earlier I had a flight for a month or so away where seat selection was not working by any means on a flight that was pretty empty, showing all 9's in the Y buckets etc so no obvious reason for an issue. After a day or so magically it came good....

It could well be that a deliberate change has taken place (but it is usually a bug when it comes to QF :p )
