I am flying to ADL from BNE on sunday and just went to choose a seat after making my booking. I can see the emergency rows are free for selection but it wants to charge me 30 bucks to choose one on the emergency rows. I thought that practice only applied on international flights. has this changed recently.

I am Lifetime Gold.

Yes, there was a recent change. QF now charges for Exit Row seats on domestic flights as well.

Jeez ... that must have been recent. I did the same trip last week and could choose and exit row no problems. What bunch of ******. Seriously, i don't know why I didn't switch to Virgin as soon as my LTG came up with Qantas.

Virgin also now charges for extra legroom seats (including exit rows) on domestic flights, unless you have Platinum status. If you think you could make Platinum with Virgin, then yes you would be better off wrt seat selection than you are with QF, but that's about it.

Overall, as someone with Platinum status in both programs, my guess is you would be sorely disappointed if you move to Virgin.
