Hi folks,

A while back I booked a flight from BNE>SIN>LHR>DUB>LHR>SIN>PER, but booked it before I read all the fare rules and booking redemtion rates... big mistake!

I called up to find out my booking class and was advised that it was V. Sadly the V class does not attract any points or SCs on my Velocity account.

Does anyone here know if I can throw more money at the booking to change it to a fare class that will get my some points and SCs? The fare rules say that it cannot be changes, but I'm wondering if throwing money at the problem will solve it?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Cheers

I don't. Is this something I can find out easily from the confirmation email or logging into my online booking?

I just know it is a discount economy fare.

EDIT: Just called them and the fella told me that I could change one leg to M Class (Flexi Saver), and the journey back to W Class (Also Flexi Saver). He said he had put a request through and I should expect a call from someone in the next 48-72 hours to give me a price and to organise it.

There was no mention of my existing fare rule not allowing it, so hopefully it all goes to plan and doesn't cost me too much. Then again, it would take a rather big price to put me off 260 Velocity SCs.

I think the best option for you is to call Sing air and ask if you can pay the extra amount without having to cancel the ticket without any penalties.

I know how frustrating this can be as I once lost out on a promotion for 2 free upgrades beause 1/15 of my trips was in V class and the difference in price in those days was under A$150.00

1. Download the VA earning chart
2. Call SQ with your patience and credit card ready

You can rebook the existing ticket, subject to the conditions on the existing ticket (and the generosity of the phone operator to allow/waive penalties). You will most probably be hit with a change/rebooking fee and the fare difference. It is hard to be any more specific without the actual fare basis / conditions.

They should be able to give you a quote before it is locked in, at which point I would do a quick cost/benefit in your head.

Loads of patience was indeed required.

Got it changed over there to M class for all SQ sectors. They quoted me around $700 odd, but I don't know how much of that if fare difference or fees. It was ages ago since I made the original booking so I don't recall what the difference between discount and flexi saver fares were.

Anyway, the booking class M has a full economy status credit earn rate with VA, so I'm happy with that. I had heard about people not being able to make any changes to a discount economy fare.. use it or lose it.

I can see that the miles earned on the booking has been updated, even though they never took my payment yet. They said that the changes were done, and that someone would call me back in 48-72 hours to take the payment. I'd have thought that they would have wanted the money before making the changes.
