Er edit: Jet Connect, not Jet Connet.
Turns out my $ from non wages income (rental property income) was slimmer than I expected, so my MEL - WLG one way fly is now in whY (not J, not comfort seat request either).
Has any AFF members have had a shadow on their Y trans Tasman flight of late.
Know its only 3.5 (5.5 hrs inc time diff )hrs of my life squashed, but just wanting to see the chances of a shadow of those who have done the flight lately.
Thanks.

Have had quite full Au dom flights, and was given a shadow. One op up.
Maybe I have taken the SG shadow thing/op up for granted!
Even when had to buy a MEL - ADL flight, 2.5 hours prior to flight, $271 whY on 28 Dec 15, when JQ cancelled my flight, I had a shadow.
Can't upgrade, as have used P+P, my QFF bal now 0. Fare down from $249 down to $161.
I don't have AFF Gold, so no access to EF either.
Ta anyways, will wait and see I guess.

A "shadow" implies a block placed specifically. A free seat next to one is more a factor of loads and luck, rather than a deliberate "shadow" blocking.

Seems a good idea to select a seat further back from the front may have a better chance at free seats. Maybe

I've had free seats next to me in rows 6 and 7, however the TT routes are getting very busy

Yes they can be very full, from talk of some WLG Jetconnect staff the EK tie has really increased loads.
AP the best suggestion I can give you is the last couple of rows, last row can be used for Unaccompanied Minors but often the second and third last row have 1 or two pax in them.

I have had shadows placed on Trans-Tasman flights in Y and J but only on request from the P1 Team in the last year or so. Irrespective of seat block requests - I have often noticed that the middle seats of the first 3 or 4 Y rows are empty (or the last to be filled if I happen to be monitoring Expert Flyer) - but that is down to load of the aircraft and a bit of luck in the end.

Have had them loads of time, but all depends on the load. The last AKL-MEL flight of the day is often quite good for this (especially when it was at 9pm!) as most people seem to go for the EK flight. Sometimes you see sports teams on TT flights either side of the weekend, in which case they'll get the shadows and the flight will be quite packed.

Altair, I have taken 28F on the 737.
As SG, no seat selection fee.
Granted as its Apr school holidays, I might still get moved up, as is the "For operational and security reasons, ...".
Thanks all.
Edit: Medhead, my QFF points balance is now "zilch". Apart from the hens teeth op up, that shadow/empty seat is the only thing left.

It would work in the same way as regular QF 737 flights.

I have had shadows on most of my Jetconnect flights, but of course it can't be expected if the plane is full.

Last few trips as SG I have seen row 4 open up for me to select about 80 hours out. Have had shadows a few times but never been sure whether that is because the other person in the row had very high status or because i am gold. Further back down the plane I've never had middle seats as flights always full. Man that legroom is terrible, whereas I find row 4 more roomy then business in those aircraft!
