Cathay Pacific specific aircraft seating types

I know this isn't a Qantas enquiry, but I hope the respective admins will forgive me this one time - they are at least a OW member (and I'm flying them in lieu of Q!).

Does anyone have any advice on how I can determine the specific seating maps for flight bookings with CX prior to making the booking? I am assuming I'm not the first to have this query, given how vague their website is (insofar as it shows aircraft type but not the version). I am flying MEL > HKG > NRT or HND. It's driving me nuts.

Basically, I want to avoid the J regional product (having said that I know how notorious CX are with substitutions, I got up'd to a 747 from a regional 777 on my last flight with them). Seatguru is vague.

Am I going to have to resort to their call centre?

Another question, does anyone know with CX105 (HKG ADL MEL) whether the flight from ADL to MEL (second leg) is counted as a separate sector for status/points earn purposes, or whether the segment HKG>MEL would be counted instead? With QF, I know that if you do MEL LHR (via SIN or HKG) then it is counted as 1 leg, but if you stopover in SIN/HKG the legs are broken and you get a slightly larger points/credits earn.

EDIT: Ok, clearly there are better locations for this thread so moderators feel free to move it there!

Sorry to state the obvious but have you checked the cathay website for seating maps? Last I looked they were pretty good.

Hmm, maybe this is a mistake from my end.

The example I have is CX134 MEL>HKG says 330. 330 seems to be "regional product" - why would this be flying out of Melbourne? So I assumed that it was simply listing aircraft type, not configuration.

Check here for quite detailed info about what equipment operates which CX flights. Despite the Nov 2010 'last update' stamp, there is more recent info contained within, and in links.

If you have a precise day in mind many people here have (paid) Expert Flyer access, which should normally allow a look at the 'real' seat map for the particular flight. Happy to help out to a reasonable extent and provide seat map details.

So I am a solid bet for a decent (older) herringbone J product to HKG, then a regional onwards with the off chance of a swap.

I meant to add that Expert Flyer I think has a 5 day free trial if you wanted to get onto it and check seat maps out. Bear in mind I presume that info at Flyertalk is accurate, but no guarantee.
 
if you go to the Cathay website and search under 'schedules' it gives a complete weekly listing and beside that lists the specific aircraft type operating that sector (for example a330s are differentiated with 33B and 33E etc, same for 777s)

It's not classed as another sector, as it's a technical stop. I'd recommend avoiding this particular flight if you can.
 
Just flew CX - both older J product ( 33b) and on way home 33e - new J product.

Try to get your flight via SYD to experience the new J product its great.

That said, I quite enjoyed the older J, but it doesnt have same luxury feel or space as thew new J.
