CX just emailed me their new "enhanced" baggage policy, effective 15/09/2016.

saw that - i presume the move to discontinue interlining between OW carriers on seperate tickets is buried in the fine print. Ah Hong Kong, caveat emptor!

I'm cringing - often pack in more than 2 bags to make it easier to handle for me. Or when my gear is packed accordingly to spread it out and help me keep shooting when airlines seem to "misplace" my luggage. (Yes I'm looking at you Aer Lingus!!)

I don't think you should - I would call and check. Compare the checked baggage page https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_AU/travel-information/baggage/check-in-baggage/cathay-pacific-flights.html which is very similar in layout - except it has an additional Oneworld status allowance section.
