Cathay will boost capacity between Australia and Hong Kong by 7 per cent, or almost 1300 seats a week, by February as it uses larger aircraft such as Boeing 777-300s and installs more seats on its A330-300s.

Mr Chin said outbound traffic from Australia to Hong Kong had been stronger this year.

"The local sales were a bit softer a few years ago but this year has been a very good year for us. It is not just Sydney – it is across the board. It has also been helped by the change of schedule," he said.

Under a new schedule, Cathay effectively increased the number of flights each week between Australia and Hong Kong from 70 to 74 early this year by offering direct services to Adelaide and Cairns.

Brilliant Airline! It would be terrific if CX re-introduced F ex-SYD

QF can't blame any "Middle Earth" advantage for their failure with this route.

Not all of them. There are still 4 747s with the old seats. Those 4 are due to be retired over the next 9 months or so.

It is good to see that airlines are being proactive and adding flights rather than taking them. Just a shame its not QF adding.

I am concerned however that the increase in capacity may be at the expense of comfort if the following picture is an indication as to how they will increase capacity :) :) :) LOL

Did QF not make a sing and dance that by removing F to HKG, they would be using the ER's freed up by the equipment change on the DFW run.
So we are specifically talking about the 9 747's that were refitted.

having the 777 option will be great as the PE and Y products are a step up in terms of space in the bulkheads / preferred seating and overall cabin spaciousness, doubtful we will see F fitted 777s on the route as they are fully utilised on EU and USA routes

every time i got the 747 to HKG or back, it has been the old seats. with the tiny screens.

But with the change of DFW to the 380 and the removal of F from HKG, wouldn't they be using one of 9 refurbs instead of the older product?
