Hi folks I am off to China later in the year and was wondering if I can book paid (no redemption ) Cathay flights on the Qantas web site. I am based in Perth and as most of you would know Qantas in it's wisdom no longer flies direct to Hong Kong out of Perth so my options to go with QF via Sydney or CX direct. I know I can book on the Cathay site and enter my FF details and gain points and status credits but am wondering why I cannot do via the Qantas site.

Fairly sure I saw CX flights bookable on the QF website last week but I can't remember in what combination.
Qantas would only onsell them for select routes where they don't compete.
Is there a reason you want to book with QF and not CX direct? If it is not a codeshare, you won't get any extra SCs etc for booking via QF.

no particular reason to book with QF I just thought it odd that as they don't fly direct Per HK why they would not give you the option to book on their site. I guess they think we are silly enough to want to fly via Sydney then on to HK, making it a 13 hour flying time trip versus 8!
Thanks for your comments exceladdict

Pure and simple QF may not have access to sell the direct CX flight on its site. Even if you are looking for the PER-HKG flight, QF will send you either via SIN or the east coast.

I am not sure why you just wouldn't book the flights using the CX site? If you are looking for a QF codeshare, you won't find one. Just make sure you check the fare class to ensure you book an eligible class for the purposes of status and points earn.

Qantas actually compete directly against Cathay Pacific on flights between Australia and Hong Kong. Why would they sell CX flights on their website?

As far as I'm aware, QF will only sell you a Cathay flight as an onward connection to/from HKG, or as part of an award booking. In the case of PER-HKG, they will only sell you QF to SIN and then CX to HKG.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You'd be able to book CX flights from HKG to your final destination on the QF website.
