Earlier this year I booked a couple of JAL F seats (SYD-HND) for this Christmas. Total cost at the time was 129300 points + $181.92 as below.

Given there's a good chance travel to Japan may not open up by Christmas, I thought I'd see how availability is for next year and found there is heaps of F availability. I managed to grab another two F seats to Tokyo just time for hanami season.

Surprisingly the copay has halved since booking in January - it would appear carrier charges have been completely removed, leaving just fuel taxes and gov passenger charges.

Perhaps optimistic, but if anyone's eyeing flights to Japan for next year, now could be a good time to book!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

From the JAL website..." The applicable fuel surcharge is based on the two-month average fuel price*1 of the Singapore Kerosene and will be fixed for two months as below*2. In case of changing the fuel surcharge, we will apply for the government approvals of the applicable country to amend it. If the two-month average fuel price falls below US$60, we will not collect fuel surcharge."

Our OW Classic Flight Award is already booked with 4 x JL segments in F for 2 pax. Surcharge when the booking started in May was AUD$83 per segment from memory.

But I do have more flights to add to the itinerary which will require re-ticketing by QF.

Fingers crossed that the new Taxes and charges calculation takes acount of the new JL rates
