I cancelled a reward flight paid on a since cancelled cc. Now, QF by text chat is saying I need to email them a stat dec with all my new cc details for the refund. It sounds over the top and I don't want to write my cc details down.

That’s common practice. I’m due a refund to a cancelled credit card. The merchant wouldn’t let me change the details and they have to process to the original card and when that bounces back to them they will send me a cheque. It’s been five weeks so far and still nothing.

I tried to offer a new cc for the refund. I'd rather the money as I don't need a credit voucher with them for a while.
A cheque maybe, months later, great. I am still on the text chat and have asked what happens to see what they say when they can't credit the cancelled card. I've been on the chat like for an hour and 20 mins. Surely I can get the points back more quickly.

So, on this chat text line since 1418, now 1631. They are refusing to even issue a cheque. May have to mention the financial ombudsman. A stat dec is all they will accept.

Good luck. Looks like you will be offsetting the churned card's bonus miles with your time :(

I tried that too. No dice.

Same for me last week, though also told a letter from the Bank though they couldn't tell me what the Bank was supposed to say.

In regards to your privacy, only asking for first 6 and last 4 numbers of the account number

I had something a little similar a while ago, QF refunded to the (cancelled) card and the bank transferred money to an account of my choosing

QF have, via chat, delivered me a 'secure online form' allowing me to fill out new c/card details to facilitate refund to a different card to that which I paid (also churned, I mean cancelled :) since my original booking)

Yes, plan to suggest that to a real person.
Understandable. What about EFT to nominated bank account? EFT is a standard practice these days.

Had not considered this was a thing ... to Amex? Sounds a nuisance, perhaps as a last resort.

Yes, I have had that before. And, will also suggest that.

One of the downsides to churning I suppose :(:(:(

More to my note above, I am actually chasing three refunds for my recently cancelled trip on three different cancelled cards. Qantas has asked for a stat dec, Allianz has refunded my travel insurance premium back to a closed account who have subsequently issued a new statement with a credit balance despite being closed for more than 6 months - haven't tried to do anything with this yet though I suppose it's good that I technically have the funds back. And lastly, I also have a hotel payment to claim back but due to above just haven't been able to steel myself to start the process yet.

Nothing is ever straightforward or easy these days!!!

Qantas also initially provided me this form, I completed and sent back during the chat and it was then that the operator apologised and said they couldn't use this option, hence the requirement for a stat dec.

Are they wanting a letter from the new cc company? If so, how do they credit you if you only give them some of the cc numbers?

Wow. I have better things to do with my time. I now know why I don't bother with CC churning - more to consider than the potential points earn.

Didn't ask, not sure which Bank they even wanted the letter from as I decided quickly that Stat Dec was probably the easiest way to progress

Not sure though I think the first six digits give them card type and Bank and I'm assuming last four digits (which include the check digit) allow the Bank to identify my account once Qantas sends the funds to them. I forgot to mention, but also had to provide card expiry date which may also assist.

So did you prepared a letter / statement, with the cc details they require and then get it signed as a stat dec and then emailed it to QF?

Guess I got lucky, for once, on the QF chat/call centre lottery, refund thru to different card no issues

Agree. But mine was when all the Banks decided to cancel their attached Amex cards without bothering to think of the consequences for customers.
