Can you still change award bookings within 24 hours if you have made a mistake

Thought QF free changes were only ever by midnight that day, so could be 24hrs, could be 1hr

Don't know how many tickets you've bought but at least the change fees are reasonable. 5,000 points per passenger (or $20 in woolworths gift cards) is far shy of the change fees on cash tickets

Booked march instead of feb, both were sundays hence the confusion

best way is to call them asap.

I think there is some flexibility on this. While the offer states 'before midnight' this is perhaps unreasonable for bookings made at say 10pm which might not be discovered until the next day.

The reasoning behind the policy is not for the customer's benefit... the airline wants you to book 'now' and not go off and compare other airlines or website. Apparently once you leave the website there's not an unreasonable chance you will book elsewhere.

Giving a 'mistake guarantee' is a way to encourage immediate bookings. With that background behind the policy, I know QF have allowed changes to errors early into the next day. Although I don't think there's any set time for how long they will extend.

That being said the 'by midnight' is probably stated because that's when sale fares are loaded or end. I guess they don't want someone booking today but then trying to claim a mistake to take advantage of a sale the next day.

Hi exceladdict,

Regarding the award booking change fee of 5,000 points per passenger I'm interested in your reference to "or $20 in Woolworths gift cards". Is there another way to pay for award booking changes rather than using 5,000 points each time that I haven't heard about? I'm used to paying the previous 3,500 points each time I've made a change adding flights to 280K One World Awards and I'll be looking at booking another one around July or August 2017 for a trip in 2018. I've always wished we had the option of paying a change fee rather than having to use points when making changes.

Unfortunately no, I just used that as a base value for Qantas Points (what you can convert them to in woolworths gift cards being the closest cash equivalent). However my maths is wrong - a $25 wish egift card now is 4230 points for $25, so 5,000 points is more like $29.55 at woolworths.

But either way my point that $30 is a reasonable change fee if that's how you value QF points - but if you're getting between 4 and 8 cents then 5,000 points does become an expensive change fee.

Glad you got it sorted out.

Award tickets are also changeable on the day at the airport without a fee as they are treated as flexible fares - as long as there are U or X class seats available on the flight you want.

Thanks for explaining that exceladdict. It is a good way to look at the value of 5000 points in reference to a change fee.

Cancelling a VA award is $35 or 3,500 Velocity points. Chose to pay cash.

Quite reasonable to cancel award compared to cancelling revenue airfare.

Previous experience would suggest it's 24 hours, having booked an award flight close to midnight, seeing it cancel shortly before heading to the airport in the early hours of the next morning and had it refunded 100%.
