Hi members,

I have a query I'm hoping someone can assist with.

Route: ADL - MLE
Test Date: 23/06/2015

Now, Qantas award search brings up a list of opportunities throughout many days in June/July of 2015, however, none of them use Malaysian Airlines. The reason I want to use Malaysian Airlines is it's the shortest (Cheapest Oneworld) route ADL - KL - MLE

When I go to ba.com and have a look, there is a Malaysian Airlines award flight for the test date, and it is 30,000 Avios plus 200 pound.

I want to know if it's possible, as BA are Oneworld also, whether or not I can use the QFF point in my account, to book this segment?

Advice is greatly appreciate.

Malaysia Airlines doesn't appear in Qantas' award booking engine so you have to call Qantas to book this award.

I think he is saying that you will be using QFF points to book a QFF award but need to book over phone

AFAIK there is no way to use QFF points to book a BA website award.

ADL-KUL-MLE will cost you 42,000 Qantas points + taxes + most likely a 6,000 point fee for booking over the phone which you could try and ask to be waived because it is not possible to book this online.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yes, that's what I was asking. So unless there is some way to tranfer QFF to Avios, I guess I will not be able to book this award.

If the question is "can you transfer QFF points to Avios" then as mentioned above you can't. I noticed there's a 20% bonus on buying Avios to Oct 31 (it's still Oct 31 in London?). As an option, you can buy some to top up your account if you really want to book using Avios.

Where did you get the 42,000 points from? Seeing as how Qantas don't do Malaysian Airlines and BA are saying its 30,000 Avios, I'm interested in where you got the 42,000 figure from?

Cheers,

Qantas do MH award flights, but you can't book them online, you need to call. Airline FF miles are not generally teansferrable between schemes, with a few exceptions. QFF miles are stuck there, and can be used for this award.

The partner awards are distance based so is semi-easy to calculate required points for a given award.

Where did you get that QF doesn't 'do' Malaysian airlines? You can book award seats on any OneWorld airline with QF points. You have QF points. So it is the QF price you pay. QF don't show Malaysian seats online, BA do. Both program's should be able to book those seats but you have to contact your own program. I.e you have to call Qantas to book this flight using Qantas points at the rate they charge. Just like you would have to booking CX, BA, etc the price in points/miles shown on their websites is irrelevant, the only price that matters is the QF one. The other airlines websites are just good for checking availability of the seats before calling. Hope that makes sense as it sounds like you are a bit confused about how FF program's operate.

I booked CX award flights online with QF so you do not have to phone for every other airline. MH is one of the carriers that you do need to phone to book though so you are correct there.

Apologies love_the_life, my wording might not have been clear there, in that case I was referring to how the cost shown on other carriers websites is irrelevant, if you are looking at their sites it is only good for availability of partner airlines if you are going to be booking using QF points. Yes you most definitely can book some CX and BA award flights on the QF engine.

Travelislife, I thought it looked like you were saying you had to ring QF to book on all other carriers as I know that there are some OWs that do show up on the QF booking engine. Most, however, do not.
And yes, I agree, there is a differential in points needed between QF and others (maybe just to keep us with QF???). Pity some of us like to try other carriers to compare the experience.
