I was under the impression that this was possible but I can't find a way of making a reward booking in another name. Do I have to transfer points to another account and pay the transfer fee of US$5 per 1,000 Priority Club points tranferred?

How embarassing! I promised a couple of friends 2 nights in Crowne Plaza Newcastle for Mother's Day. I have accumulated all these points and I have to pay to book a room for a friend? :(

I think it is permitted. Try phoning priority club and speaking to reservations and see what they can offer

John K, just put the name of the person staying in the requests field of the booking, it works well, or drop the hotel an email afte rthe booking is made in your name with further details.

I second this. Just book in your name, and have the person's name in the additional persons field. They will be fine to checkin, I've done this before.

Thanks. So I put the name of 1 additional guest in the reservation and they should able to check-in without me being present.

What about credit card details required with the reservation? If I provide my credit card details for the reservation will my friends be able to check-in with a credit card in another name?

I hope this works?

In fact, they'll demand it. When I did this @ HI CHC, my (now ex) girlfriend was required to put her card down even though they had mine on the system.

Put down the pax as 2, and put your friends name in the additional person field. The CC to hold your room will not be the one used for incidentals, I have found that they will take any deposit payment at checkin for that so no issue. I used points for 9 rooms at the one property for people arriving at different times on the same day, it was seemless.

What the others had said is right; add the 2nd persons name to the booking and then you just do not turn up;

Worked for me; when I checked in; all they asked if the other person was staying and I said no; they couldn't make it. :p

OK 1 room reserved for 2 nights in May and only 10,000 PC points. The room rates for that weekend are $243.50/night. PC Pointbreaks are very good value when you can actually find a suitable hotel although I don't know much about Crowne Plaza Newcastle.

I was not concerned about providing my credit card details I was more concerned that the hotel would expect to see this credit card.

Thanks again to all for the useful information provided....

CP Newcastle is great, although car parking is difficult, find your own or valet. Rooms are not that big but very new and the Hotel is well located on the wharf not far from the shops and train station if required. Great value for points!

There is no harm is giving the hotel a phone call and letting them know the details anyway. I did this when making an award reservation for my parents. In my case the surname was the same anyway. The hotel staff made a note in the res and all went smoothly.

Having read this thread, I thought I might book a night at this place on a Sat in 2 weeks' time. The CP Newcastle has been removed from the Pointsbreak hotel list but you can still book the 5000 pts rooms. Anyone know whether I would get a room upgarde as a PC Plat? (I see they have executive rooms here:mrgreen:). Would also be interested on any feed back on this hotel, esp. parking options as $22/nite parking seems a bit steep!

BTW, can anyone tell me what is there to do on a Sat nite in Newcastle?!

Yes, you can still be offered upgrades. They are not obliged to, though.

No point in stirring the pot if I can achieve the same result by being a now show.

My original booking stated:
Code:
1 QUEEN BED WITH CITY VIEW NONSMOKING.
Clicking on my PC account "Current reservations", my room now reads:
Code:
1 QUEEN BED EXECUTIVE SUITE NONSMOKING.
The hotel appears completely booked out this Sat:shock:. Has my room upgrade already been preallocated:p?

Yes, it means you are on the executive floor (CP Newcastle is all suite) and may as a result have access to the drinks and breakfast in the "lounge", which gets very busy. I would take the breakfast in the restaurant if you do get the exectuive perks, however some hotels willupgrade the rooms to club or executive level and not allow access to the club, I am not aware of this happening at CP Newcastle.

Just a few notes from my stay at CP Newcastle last Sat. It is possible to avoid valet parking (and the $22 fee) only on a Sat nite unless you want to get up early the next morning to feed the meter or move the car [there is free street parking on Sat evenings and all day Sunday on Hunter St (about 3-400 m from hotel). To my annoyance, the hotel automatically added the valet parking fee to my account which I had to ask to be removed:evil:.

When I checked in, I was offered a harbour view standard room as an upgrade from my booked city view room. The executive suite mentioned in my reservations on my online PC account didn't appear to materialise!! I just looked at the girl, and didn't say a word, who sensed my disappointment, and said she could grant me executive lounge access if I kept my booked city view room...I accepted this (I was given a lounge pass but I was never asked for it, and really anyone could just walk in to the 4th floor lounge).

The room itself was nice (a little noisy tho from the traffic below) and new with 2 LCD TVs, one in the bedroom and the other in the lounge.

The lounge itself could be best described as a large space in the middle of the corridor...did have views of the harbour tho. Served drinks (530-730pm) by a very friendly waitress who managed singlehandedly to keep up with the drink orders of 25+ guests. Food wise, there were nuts, and a few nibbles brought out every 30 mins or so:(. One patron complained bitterly about the lack of food, and was comparing it to the Hyatt Adelaide lounge where there a free flow of food apparently:rolleyes:. For 5000 pts, I was not complaining! Breakfast was pretty miserable with bread, cereal, and tea / coffee with some OJ...I overheard a lot of complains but as a 5000 pt guest, I didn't say anything!

The harbour itself is OK...too bad that I turned right (when facing the harbour), and had to walk 1-2kms to find some restaurants for dinner; If I had turned left, I would have found over 10 restaurants less than 2-300 metres from the hotel:(

I took a few pics if anyone is interested. Happy to post here or email....

PS...Newcastle is pretty dead on a Sat nite...well the places I went to anyway!

Sounds like the same as when I stayed there last year during the APEC holiday, I was paying for the lounge access at the time and did not think $300 a night (using a BOGO) was great value even when divided by 2, at 5000 PC points lounge access is a different story! Did you try breakfast in the restaurant as its included if you ahve lounge access?
