Hi,
we have just returned from a 4 week holiday where we flew many times. i have never been a frequent flyer member and was wondering if i could still join a program and claim the miles we have just flown? we flew on a few airline companies during the trip, would this matter? also are they all credit card affiliated as i dont want a credit card if possible.
thank you in advance for any assistance.

Yes, most frequent flyer programs allow you to claim points for flights taken immediately prior to joining (usually the last 30 days).

A credit card is not a requirement for membership of a frequent flyer program - it is just a way to accrue additional points.

Most frequent flyer programs allow you to earn points on airlines other than their own.

For all these things, it depends on which airlines you flew as to which is the best program and what they allow.

You will have to read the terms and conditions of the program you are considering to join, but from memory, I think you can join and have your flights credited to your frequent flyer account within 3 months of your flights. Again, check whether it is 3 months but others will correct it. The other problem you have is selecting which frequent flyer program you will credit your flights to; you have to consider how much flying you intend to do in the future; whether to select Star Alliance or One World. The list goes on. A good start is to go the website of the carrier you did most of your flying, and see what it offers in terms of earn and burn points etc.

Edit: (I have been corrected, looks like the last 30 days. Knew it had a 3 in there somewhere)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

What about flights taken several months before joining? I suppose QF won't give me any points for those?

No, as I stated above, most programs limit earning to 30 days prior to joining - this includes Qantas and Velocity. If you're a member at the time of the flight, Qantas allows claims for flights up to 12 months and Velocity 6 months.

I would not say most; QFF allow 30 days, some restrict it to the flight you 'joined' on.

To the OP, who where (or what was) the airline(s) you flew on and what Frequrnt Flyer Program were tyou hoping to join/credit to?
