I'm *G with TG (Royal Orchid Plus) for over 10 years. Lately and for next few years we'll also be doing a lot of flights MEL-AKL and domestic NZ. I want all status & miles to go to TG, but would like the convenience of having a profile with NZ to save having to enter all details (name, address, phones, passport, DOB, seating preferences etc - even credit cards if I choose) with each booking. It seems that if I apply for a profile with NZ I'll be automatically enrolled in their AirPoints FF and will not be able to get my points to TG. This was the case a few years back with SK but they now allow login as either SK FF or "other" (which retrieves my profile and allows selection of other Star Alliance schemes). Does anyone know if this is possible with NZ, or if NZ plan to do this?

I don't think what you're trying to do is possible, sorry.

In any case, it's not worth crediting flights to Airpoints (terrible FF program) just to save a few minutes filling out your details at the time of booking. ;)

If you fly a lot of Aust dom flights, go with VFF, flying VA.
The points you earn under VFF, with a min of 5000 VFF points can be transferred to SQ KF, you do loose a certain % of the points though.
If you fly transTasman a lot, fly with VA, they have EcomomyX, and their J fares transTasman can be quite cheap, no wide bodies of course, plane wise.
If you buy your groceries in Aust, go with Coles, and collect FB points, this can be transferred to VFF, if you drive, buy fuel from BP and collect VFF points.
All VFF points can be earned flying VA, and then transferred into SQ KF, and you can then redeem rewards with SQ, or TG.
Yes, downside is you loose status with TG Orchid, as VFF is not in *A.
If you book your travel with FBTravel, you will also earn points.
VFF you just have to enter your VFF # and password each login to book flights, the points usually appear quite fast.
VFF have never forgotten or lost my details.
Granted they don't keep your credit card # though, so each time you book, you do have to enter credit card number again, but if you pay with bpay or polipayment (Aust bank account), you save, by paying the least credit card fees, polipayment, no fees.
SQ does fly MEL - WLG, if you do want the wide body, and you can get access to SK lounge at MEL T2, my KF account remembers my Aust passport #, thus you can still put in your TG FF #.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

These are the options as far as I know. You can create an Air NZ account and credit flights to TG.

Either during the booking process you have to select “enter details manually” and select Thai as programme. (Sounds like you’re trying to avoid the extra typing though).

Or at check-in ask them to change FFP to TG. Get them to reprint boarding pass if changes don’t show in app.

Or in the lounge ask them to change to TG.

I’ve switched a couple of NZ flights to SQ earn but was in the lounge and didn’t check to see what it looked like in the app. Used to do it with VA as well when that was an option.

The real risk is forgetting to do the switch if you’re not used to thinking about it.
