I stumbled across what seems like a good deal on at the moment with Air China. Round-trip fares from Melbourne to Beijing in PREMIUM ECONOMY are available for $801.90 return, including all taxes. Books into "E" class.

SYD-PEK is also available for $815.78 return in Premium Economy.

I can see various dates in October available. There could be other dates as well.

Looking at the seat map, it seems the PE cabin is two rows in a 2-4-2 configuration, which is the same as economy. But there is more legroom and I presume better service as well. Has anyone flown Air China PE and can clarify?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Will credit (mileage) points (but not SC) to Asia Miles/MPC.

Correct that it is just a bit more legroom. On the older (un refurbished) a330 premium economy gets seat-back tv, but regular economy doesn't. This aircraft doesn't fly to Australia however.**

I understand the food is the same. Extra amenities in the form of a pair of slippers.

As the cabin is immediately adjacent to the galley, you might get a bit better service. Certainly first crack at the meals.

The flight I took was packed in economy and only 50% full in PEY. Might be worth it for that. But who knows the loads.

Other reports indicate upgrades at checkin for around USD150 TPAC. So the cabin might fill anyway.

$300 extra for PEY over economy probably represents OK value for such a long flight.

** edited... looks like CTU-SYD flights may have angled beds in business and no tv in economy. This is an unusual configuration with just 12J and the rest economy. Don’t know if this aircraft even has PEY.
