Business travellers taking flight from Archerfield from early 2014 | News.com.au

BRISBANE is about to get its second public passenger airport with Archerfield to operate regular interstate flights from early next year for the first time.

The services would be targeted at business travellers with two flights a day, three days a week from the airport, 11km south west of the CBD.

Until now Archerfield has been limited to general aviation operations, such as charters for Fly In Fly Out workers.

Archerfield Airport general manager Corrie Metz says discussions are underway with two airlines interested in operating from the hub, with flights expected to start early next year.

"It definitely is a landmark. It is an exciting prospect for us,'' he said.

The two airlines - which he would not identify - were looking at starting with ''niche markets''.

The flights would fly between Archerfield and interstate centres, although he would not confirm if they would include capital cities.

Also mentioned in passing at the end is the new proposed airport in Toowoomba, supposedly due to open late next year.
