I’m a little nervous. I’ve booked a J award for DrSanne and myself Brisbane to Broome non stop to overnight in Broome before a cruise. This flight only goes once a week.

Has anyone had experience with this non stop flight as far as reliability. I’m concerned that if it’s cancelled what are my options to getting to Broome in time for the cruise.

I’m thinking maybe I should have a plan B in case. Any suggestions please.

Thanks.

Would you suggest booking another J award flight option via Perth as a fall back should the non stop be cancelled?

Yes, I've done BNE-BME and return. Flights were on time. If there was to be a problem, there will be flights via PER that will get you there.

Given the timing of the flight, on a Sunday I assume, if cancelled in advance, you'll be fine. If the plane goes unserviceable after you board, Plan B would be a later flight to PER, overnight there and early flight to BME arriving at 08:35 the next morning.

From BNE to BME, interesting combination of IATA airport codes...

I believe the flight departs BNE at 9:40 am? If it's cancelled, the alternatives via PER depart either at 8:10 (so you should try to be at the airport earlier that morning just in case of a last minute cancellation) or at 20:20 the same night (arriving BME the next morning), as dajop has already pointed out. What time does the cruise depart?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thank you all very much for your helpful suggestions. I’m so appreciative of the time and effort to giving such comprehensive replies.

Our cruise leaves at 6pm from Broome on Monday. Our flight is Sunday.

Right at the moment I’m cruising so internet is not so good. Will check all the options as soon as I can.

As these are J award flights would there be a problem getting seats on alternate flights in the case of our flight being cancelled for any reason? I’m assuming there wouldn’t be availability of award seats on the day we’re flying. Would they offer Y instead of J for instance or would I have to pay for the flight.

Thanks for your help

Once you have a valid booking and a confirmed J seat, if there is a delay or cancellation Qantas will put you on the next best route. You will not need to pay anything more. And it is not dependent on there being a reward seat available. Of course if J is unavailable you may be downgraded to Y, and there will be others on the same flight from Brisbane that will need to be looked after, but in general as far as I'm aware you won't be penalised for being on a reward ticket.

Just beware if you get rerouted and you end up on a 717/A320 or F100, it won’t have a J cabin.

Thanks very much kermatu and mannej for your useful replies. I’m assuming in a situation where we are downgraded to Y we will get a refund of points being the difference between J and Y award.

Should do so, but I wouldn't assume it. You'd almost certainly need to call.

there is daily 5:50 am flight from Perth to Broom if you need it
