As there is no premium economy from Adelaide (Cathay soon) how do you book on line at Qantas for say Adelaide to Singapore which can be business or economy then Singapore to Europe which can be all 4 classes?

We can cope with cattle for 7 or so hours on day flight to Singapore from Adelaide but then want more comfort on Singapore Europe leg. Cant seem to do on website.

Is it better to book cattle all the way and then request upgrades with points?

We have wife and me 245,000 qantas ff points.

All ideas appreciated.

Considering the flights out of SIN could be cheaper anyway, maybe best to make two bookings and link them.

You can't book mixed classes on the website in the one pnr. It can happen accidentally that if requested a JASA (business class any seat award that earns points & status credits) that sometimes one or more flights on the journey requested in J could be offered in a lower class of travel however you are still charged J points despite travelling in whY or PE so you need to go over the flight details with a fine tooth comb before you press the 'make this booking & charge my credit card' step.

It may be cheaper to purchase a cheap ADL/SIN/ADL in whY then do a freq flyer redemption in PE SIN/LHR or FRA/SIN return which starts at 126,000 points plus cash pp for SIN/Europe return.

I'm assuming that you have a total 245,000 ff points between the two of you not each.

245000 together.

Can you book on line here with Qantas for a return SIN/LHR? or do you book thru a different site?

Many Thanks

At the top right of the QF home page there is a drop down menu to select the country. Choose Singapore and away you go. It is not important which country you are physically in.

I have often found the QF SIN site to be cheaper. Make sure you check the currency of the section you are in, though.

Thanks for the help - has been really useful Cheers

Hello friends,

I am facing this same conundrum.

I wish to fly SYD-NRT by PE but then return NRT-SYD in J (all with QF of course).

Should I just book (by ASA) the whole trip in PE and then followed up with a request for SYD-NRT upgrade to J ?

What would you recommend the "right" way of doing this ?

Maybe it has been covered somewhere but I could not find the right info to guide me.

Thanks in advance

I just did a random availability for next August for QF21 Thu 29 Aug returning on QF22 Wed 25 Sep but doing the
search for the classes only showed the option for choosing F/J/Y no PE so J is 144,00 plus AUD717.38.

Economy Class

A return in whY on QF21 SYD/NRT Thu 22 Aug returning on QF22 NRT/SYD Sun 29 Sep is 56,000 plus AUD757.77.

I don't know what's happened to PE & why there's no option to select it, however if going up whY & back J I would call up QF & ask them if they can waive the assistance fee due to the fact you can't do a mixed class return fare yourself on the website.

I would expect to pay 100,000 points (half 144K & half 56K) plus AUD700.00 ish in taxes.

I don't think it's worth doing an YASA then using points to upgrade to Jas you're using more points than if you do a JASA from the beginning & you only receive points/SC based on the YASA fare not the JASA.

You could do two separate bookings yourself online eg YASA SYD/NRT & JASA NRT/SYD but watch the taxes on the one way fares ex NRT as they can be expensive. If there's not much difference in cash outlay when you do 2 separate pnrs then by all means do it that way but if there's a significant difference do it over the phone.

One think to note when calling up is be prepared for the CSR saying to you "you'd be better off doing a Classic award" as they will say this for sure. Be insistent that you want to book an any seat award for the points/SC earn.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The highlighted quote above is a gem of which I was not aware of.

I will compare $$ (phone / separate PNRs online) before making a commitment.

This forum has taught me that this is possible.

I have never thought of "mixing it up" like this - ever.

Until now..

Thanks

...
To be clear, YASA's booked into X class are not normally eligible for upgrades with points.

The lack of PE to NRT in Aug next year is likely to be due to it reverting to A333 services.

Thank you

The depth of knowledge is astounding to see here

The only thing missing is my CL card - still waiting for it in the mail
