Booking SQ Flights, earning Velocity Points and Upgrading using KrisFlyer Miles

Hi all!

I am a Velocity Platinum member and am looking at booking some SQ flights and then transferring my VA points to my empty KrisFlyer account to upgrade the flights to business class. Will this work? Although it sounds relatively simple and straight forward...I have a feeling that either:
1) if I book the flights without logging into Krisflyer, the option to "upgrade my flight" will be grayed out.
2) if I log into my Krisflyer account and book the flights that way, I won't be able to nominate my velocity account to earn the status credits, but I'll be able to transfer my points across and upgrade to business.
3) if both of the above are true, what if...I booked the flights using option (2), and nominate my velocity account when i'm checking in at the gates - but will this work?

If someone could help clear this up that would be great! Any suggestions would be appreciated too

I just started a topic on this earlier today.
Have booked SQ flights, and I am a VA plat.
The SQ booking is not linked to my KF account, and the Upgrade using Miles is greyed out.
Still not sure whether if I link it to KF (in order to upgrade) the flights will credit to VA - I have no interest in crediting miles to KF.

I called them and they said if you login to your KF account and 'retrieve' the booking you should be able to upgrade using KF miles. Let me know if this works?

My "Upgrade with Miles" button is greyed out. Suspect because the booking is not linked to a KF account, or because it was made by a company travel agent.
Will have to call them to find out.

yeah they said it'll be greyed out unless you login to your KrisFlyer account (make one if you don't have), click on "Bookings" and then put in your reference number and details to 'retrieve' your external booking then you'll be able to 'apparently' upgrade with KrisFlyer Miles.

Am sure it's a given but no harm pointing out that the only other possible reason why "Upgrades with Miles" would be greyed out is due to the airfare class as SQ only allows upgrades from full-fare Economy Flexi fares.


As for the miles/points credit to VA as opposed to KF, this can be confirmed once again during check-in at the counter.

I've made multiple calls to the call centre and was told it's greyed out because it's a travel agent booking and it does not allow the 15% discount - which apparently only works for online bookings.
