Hey guys,

I just went to book in my flights from Brisbane to Colombo in business for my honeymoon through Singapore Air and all the flights around the time we are going are waitlisted...

What are the chances of being able to book it through velocity now?

Or any other ideas on how to get there business class? I really dont want to leave it to the last minute given it is our honeymoon and I am kicking myself I didnt book it a few weeks ago when the points came through on my AMEX.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

First I would suggest you look at different dates/times/destinations if possible.

Second to that I suggest that you book the waitlisted flights, then call up and request the waitlist be cleared. If it's not cleared then cancel. The fees are quite low.

Good luck

I think you can check by doing a dummy points + pay booking on the VA website without even logging into Velocity?

My reservations with this is that then my points are locked into Krisflyer or Velocity. At the moment they are in my AMEX account.

Annoyingly, they dont have the ability to book it straight through to Colombo on the website... I think I would need to call Velocity...

Sounds like step 1 then. Give Velocity a call to check the availability of the flights you are after.

Velocity said they didnt have any availability. Boo.

But... I think I have found an alternative. Waitlist the flight out of Brisbane and then book flights out of Melbourne. Worst case scenario if we dont get flights out of Brisbane, we fly to Melbourne and fly out of there. If we do get flights we just pay the US$30 fee for cancellation!

At least you'll get to try SQ's business class on their various fleet type (A380 via MEL and return A350 via BNE), if you're into that...

Maybe I can snag myself a bulkhead row and get a double bed!

Nice one. Make sure you let us know how it all pans out :)

Once everything is booked/waitlisted. Call up and tell them it's your honeymoon and ask for a chaser to be sent out to see if they can get the waitlist cleared.

Call centre I'd suggest. You could try dummy dates online first, but you may have to be flexible.

Have you considered using KrisFlyer miles to fly Thai Airways from Brisbane to Colombo (or vice versa) via Bangkok?

You would need to call KrisFlyer to check for availability but Thai does often have business seats available. The connections via BKK work well 3-4 days per week.

Is there any way to log into the manage booking section of the SQ website to select seats with an award booking through Velocity? I'm putting in the reference number VA has given and not having any luck.

I think you would need the SQ PNR (which is different to the VA PNR).

From memory, what I did last time was call Singapore Airlines and give them the ticket number. They were able to allocate seats for me over the phone. (I had Expert Flyer up so could see what seats were available before calling.)

There'll be a SQ PNR on your e-ticket to give you access to the SQ website. I redeemed SQ J seats yesterday through velocity call centre yesterday, so this is definitely the case.

Best way is to search for redemption availability on SQ website. Record down dates and flight numbers of all sectors, and then jump on the VA website and search for the same flights by individual sectors separately to see if they are also available as a VA redemption. If they're all available, then give the call centre a call and book the flights!

Apart from not locking in points to Kris, is there any advantage or disadvantage to bkg SQ via VA?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Only thing that is different is the number of points required for redemption. Some routes may be better to book through velocity, other routes through SQ. Also depends on if you already have points with velocity, or if you're planning on transferring from AMEX MR.
