I'm booking a flight on Singapore Air's Australian website and paying with a NAB Velocity Amex card. The fare is quoted in AUD. What I would like to know is whether I will be charged a foreign currency conversion fee. I understand that even when it's an AUD transaction, a fee is charged because the merchant is a non-Australian entity. Would appreciate any info. Thanks

I book flights on the Singapore Air Australian site all the time and I've never been charged a foreign currency fee. The transaction is always billed in AUD. The biller shows up as SINGAPOREAIR AUSTRALIA.

Thanks for your reply Sea Wolf, much appreciated.... have a nice day! ychan

Many card issuers (including NAB) charge for two types of international transactions:

  1. Transactions in foreign currencies;
  2. Transactions in AUD processed by international merchants.
In the case you're talking about, there is still a chance you'll get charged under 2., if the Singapore Air Australia merchant is located in Singapore. Given that it specifically mentions Australia, I suspect that you will be fine, but cannot guarantee it.

any ex-AUS fare will be charged in AUD by the Australian Singapore Airlines Office, definitely no forex fees if paying with an AU credit card.

Thanks guys/ gals for your replies. This site is great, am trawling its contents to get more tips! cheers ychan
