Hi All,
I've only even booked and paid online for domestic flights, so need your help here.
When you book a muti-city flight route, are you expected to pay in full at the time or is there a deposit and balance set up? Does it depend on which on-line booking site you use? I'm looking at Expedia or Qantas ...are any sites better than the other? What's the online booking fee if I use Amex?
My query is obvious as I would need to credit my CC up to the $5000 mark before booking, as it's only got a $3000 limit.
Thanks for your help.

Really depends on the airline's terms and conditions, all the International flights I have ever booked with QF, JQ,TR,AA,BA,EK have been instant payment, I think the AMEX surcharge on qantas.com is A$25 same as any other credit card

Kinka - can only respond to two parts of your question.
  1. If you do a dummy online booking on the Qantas site for international travel, you will notice that there is the option of paying immediately OR for delaying payment until much closer to the departure date - in many cases only a few days. This would allow you plenty of time to raise the credit limit in your card.
  2. Qantas does charge a cred card fee - but if I remember rightly, it is the same level of fee regardless of which card you use - I use Amex as well.
Happy flying!

I forgot about book now, pay later on QF

when you get up to the payment page it looks like this, you have to put down a deposit of some amount (I wasn't paying attention)

Many thanks for that link at the qantas site. Looks like the $25pp deposit will hold for a month. You can never have enough information under your belt when learning the ropes.

Kinka - one thing I forgot (must need that coffee as well) - what is your relationship like with your TA - ours are great - we often get fares below what the airlines are clarging online - and they too allow us to 'buy now and pay later' - and without any credit card surcharge. Mind you, we do a lot of personal business with them - but well worth the thought.

Cheers again.

if you pay by amex be careful of how you go about getting your limit to 5k... that is don't try to put it into credit as this could cause problems - better to call and ask for an increase...you can always reduce after if you need to.

IIRC, the $25 pp holds your tickets for a month, but does not lock in the price. I am fairly sure the T&C's do mention about price fluctuating etc etc.
