Hi all,

Partner and I are going to the US (BNE-LAX) in September-Oct 2019. It's school holidays when we leave but return a week after they finish. Routing is as direct as possible.

Currently flights are approximatley $1800-2000 for Y return each on the dates we're looking at.
My question is, is it better to book now (or soonish when DSC offer arrives) or wait until later in the year for possible fare reductions, acknowledging that prices will hike significantly if I wait too long.

Thanks

I say book now.
Would be different if we know for sure when QF will have a DSC.
Planes have more seating in Y, but everyone goes for them, as they are cheap, and as you say, its school holidays, so families would fill those first,if looking for upgrades, you would also have to book now, to secure those seats, premY and J being less number of seats, and those would be in demand by those with status looking to upgrade.
((OT, I booked MEL - WLG in the SQ wide bodied, in J, at least I have peace of mind knowing I have a seat for sure.))
I could have waited for the price to come down, or for SQ to have a sale, I could have gone Works Deluxe on the NZ 320, but decided to get J on the wide bodied.

You could hedge your bets for a few weeks if you would like to take advantage of DSC.
There may well be Sale fares released again for that route but I’m afraid they are very unlikely to include School Holidays.
As a data point we paid $2K for LAX returns in January school holidays over the past two years.

Since you're going school holidays, book earlier than later. It is very rare for sales to include school holidays, so if you wait it is more likely that prices will rise as cheaper fare buckets are sold.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
