After eight years and over 5,000 posts later I have finally decided to call it quits. This place is like 'smoking' - very addictive and hard to quit. This is my second attempt, the first failed four years ago after another member persuaded me to stay around. That member is no longer a member here so there is no further persuasion to be had.

There are new members who are vocal and interested - they might only be 10-post-wonders and never-come-back, they may never put in the hard yards to help others, ever write a Trip Report or a hotel review like what I have done - but they deserve a chance, so I say, give them a go. Let the new members fly Virgin or whoever they choose to, who am I to suggest otherwise?

So just a quick thank you to everyone (especially over at the USDM and SPG threads) who has helped my travels become that much more enjoyable and comfortable. Hope you have enjoyed my many trip reports, flight reviews and hotel reviews

Isn't there room for all of us? Newbies can learn a lot of the experience here.

It is addictive though I agree. But love writing trip reports and the like so will be a while before I can even think of quitting.

Alan - to be nice - toughen up! Your participation and contributions have been greatly appreciated by many many AFF members - BUT - you cannot please ALL the people ALL the time.

Do not forget - this is the Internet - it is fantasy land - wherever you go and whatever you do on the Internet your postings will be seen / read / interpreted / responded to by people from all walks of life - you have no control over their responses / reactions - you can control only your contributions - and as I have said above your contributions are still greatly appreciated by so many.

I have no idea what has precipitated this decision but I have not seen the names of any AFFer in the obituaries today so clearly it is not a case of life or death.

Alan - now not to be nice - GROW UP! You want someone to pursuade you to stay? Please please please - and I am serious - I / we need your advice and assistance. I too have been pissed off on occasions but times ahead are going to get tough re FF pts cultivation and harvesting - we are going to need all experienced hands on deck - WE NEED YOU!

I have not seen the names of any AFFer in the obituaries

For about three years I was fortunate enough to be part of a dinner/drinking group started by someone who'd grown disillusioned with online fora, and we were able to put our collective minds to such noble tasks as exploiting JASAs and various LifeMiles and Dividend Miles loopholes. Then we suffered the ultimate loss of organizational memory with a couple of sudden departures to the world of Beyond LTG. A reminder of the importance of this sort of broad participation, frustrating and noisy as it will inevitably be in its current form.

Sorry to see you go. Didn't get the chance to meet you in person but I've always enjoyed reading your posts and TRs so the least I can do is thank you for the contribution.
I don't know what led to your decision but I do know you like to travel in style and since no one holds all the information we can all benefit from sharing our knowledge in this forum.
Hopefully you will change your mind again as you did four years ago and decide to stay.

Thank you for all your input over the last 8 years.Interesting and helpful.
I have just become more selective in what I read.Trying not to over react and just concentrate on my TRs.
If you are ever reading one and think our paths may cross I would love to meet up.You have always impressed as a genuine fellow.

I particularly enjoyed your honey moon TR, it seemed a stupendous holiday and took a LOT of organising. Perhaps, your cyber-rest will be over by the time you do your 1st anniversary TR.
