Hi all,

I am seeking economy class flights to Montreal or Ottawa for 4 passengers (2 x adults 1 x 5 year old and 1 x 2 year old) departing Brisbane no later than Dec 14.W are planing to have New Years in Ottawa and then fly to Vancouver for 10 days and then fly home. I have a total of 753,000 points and would like to put them toward the flight. Looking for most direct route and would prefer to fly Qantas or AC.

I have seen that you may be able to use your qantas points to fly Air Canada but can not for the life of me work out how. please see link here How to book Air Canada flights using frequent flyer points - Point Hacks

Ultimate goal is cheapest seats using points.

Happy hunting :)

Hi Airbourne,

Are all of your points QF points or do you have any VFF points?

As a starting point I have found BNE>LAX>JFK on QF departing BNE on the 12/12 arriving at JFK on the 12th at 16.30
Point outlay is 240K + around $1336 in taxes.

If you want to fly to Montreal or Ottawa on the same day as arrival you would need to book with either Delta. They have a flight departing at 20.30 which is around $105 /pax. No idea about luggage.

Alternatively there is the same flight out of BNE on the 11th. You would then need to overnight somewhere and commute to LGA to get on AA3880 (8.30) or AA3895 (10.50). they only have 3 award seats on both of these flights in Y & a 4th can be purchased for around $117. The AA flights would cost you 24,000 points + $16usd

Summary:
Option 1
12/12 - BNE>LAX>JFK = 240,000 points + $1336
JFK>LAX = ~$450 + luggage?

Option 2
11/12 - BNE>LAX>JFK = 240,000 points + $1336
Overnight hotel = $200?
Transport to LGA = $50?
LGA>YUL = 24,000 points + $16usd.

The QF flights are available to book 4 passengers online now.

Hi yld200,

Firstly I thank you for looking into this for me.

In answer to my points are QFF only.

I am assuming that the details you have given me are for all four passengers one way? If this is the case I would am very seriously thinking of taking option 2 it would be cheaper.

Would you be able to tell me if it is cheaper (points or dollars) to book the whole trip in one hit or there is no difference in securing the flights over first. My only concern then is that we are stuck with flights over and cant get back :)

Once again thank you.

Kind Regards

Airbourne

Hi Airbourne,

Yes those prices quoted are for the 4 passengers total. If you want to go with option 2 then I would look into the best way to get from JFK to LGA. I've never done this transfer before but I think there are busses / shuttles and taxi is another option. Also have a look to see what hotel prices are like for the night.

In terms of getting back, it's not as straight forward especially if you want to fly everyone together. There is availability to get you back to Mel with Japan airlines on the 15, 16, 17 of January.Theres also a long layover which you'll probably need a hotel for. The YVR flight arrives at 4.30pm while the Melbourne flight departs at 10.40am.

Please note anyone that was looking into this that these flight are no longer required. yld200 I have PM'd you. :)

Thanks all
