Yeah, likely a rant on my behalf, but I've noticed a few issue at BNE Int. that I think are pretty ordinary for a major international airport.

I admit to not flying into BNE Int very often, but I'm hardly what you'd call an infrequent traveller. A trip I made a few weeks ago highlighted to me the poor signage showing where to go upon exiting customs.

It was the first time I had used the Air Park (first and last). Upon exiting the customs area, what jumps out mostly is clutter. Cattle rails to keep the exit clear and people awaiting incoming travellers interspersed with tables and coffee shops and really, general useless clutter. Of course this also includes all the useless signage, meaning the important signage is lost. I refer to signage to taxis, to limo's, to ride share, to carpark, to rail, to transfer buses, to Air Park busses etc. To move people quickly and efficiently out of an airport, decent signage that can be found quickly and is accurate is imperative.

At BNE, the signage is small and all over the place. The taxi sign is about the size of a shoebox and all by itself and not at the exit of customs. Other transport signs are further away (closer to the building exits, but it means people are aimlessly wandering around trying to find them. I still haven't found the sign for the Air Park bus and when I used that facility, I though the easiest way is to go up to the 4th level departures stop and catch it there, as I knew where that bus stop was (I got dropped off there just a few days earlier). To my absolute surprise, that is the correct and only Int stop for the Air Park bus. No stop at arrivals level. OK fine, but put up bloody big signs telling people!! Also, I had pre ordered duty free to collect. Walked into the duty free area and half way through the shop before I found a free employee to ask. The collections counter was back where I first entered ... behind the door! That's OK as well ... put up a bloody big sign so we can find it!

Last night, I arrived into BNE Int again and the process was steamlined (I knew where the duty free collections counter was this time and was able to laugh at all the others trying to find it), I got my ticket, collected my luggage and progressed rapidly toward the exit. With nothing to declare the customs lady said to me "straight through to the exit". I thanked her and started to go straight through to the exit, however I only took two steps before I saw that straight through has an A4 size red arrow sign and that was it. "Red arrow" I thought. That's normally the declaration line so I paused to look around and saw the exit is not straight through, but a 90 degree left turn so as I started to turn to the exit, another customs lady comes up and quite curtly says "if you don't still have your ticket then exit". I didn't bother acknowledging her as I was already doing what she stated, but as I walked away I heard her say "durr".

A really good look for all the excited new arrivals to Australia. Cluttered exits, poor signage, incorrect instruction and rude staff. Well done BNE Int! (NOT)

OK rant over!

But Doc ... for us lower tier plebs, we have to seek alternate travel arrangements!

Mind you, I'd love a limo to the GC ... provided it had a bottle of sparkling in the back! It would only need to be modest, say a lovely Tassie, House of Arras Grand Vintage. I'm sure that would suffice.

I agree.

I had a similar issue with the Qantas domestic connection desk. I knew I had to turn right but while constantly searching for a sign to confirm my thoughts I really struggled to find it until I literally spotted the counters.

Rare BNE int. traveller but no stranger to airports.

I don't see the issues you mention and I have landed in BNE quite a few times. Perhaps auto pilot in action.

Will check again next month.

I only have one experience of landing in the Brisbane international terminal, but I’d agree. We found it hard to navigate, in that it wasn’t intuitive where to head to catch the transfer bus etc.

International was a bit of a shambles when we were there early this year. We had to go upstairs with skis to drop them off at oversize, which had a sign indicating that someone would be there shortly. There were 3 or 4 others already waiting and they told us they'd been there for at least 10 minutes and there was no sign of anyone coming near. Just then, Mrs jgm spotted a very small sign directing you to the other end of the terminal for the open oversize (nowhere near the large sign at the vacant oversize). I also noted that there is still virtually nothing before security in the domestic terminal. I was stuck there in transit with JQ a few years ago not being able to drop bags and unable to purchase lunch until we cleared security. It reminded me of the transit lounge at HNL back in the 90's.

Interesting perspective. I never had any issues with BNE.
The only airport in Australia that annoys is SYD. Most of my arrivals are hung over early mornings and SYD is always loud and full of people standing everywhere blocking the way. Compared to that mayhem BNE is an island of calm.
