BNE-HKG-LAX with QF & CX J Class - why is it adding both segments individually?

Hi all,

I'm researching some award routing and was looking at the routing of BNE-HKG-LAX flying QF to HKG & CX to LAX, this is resulting in 169,000 QFF points.

Whereas, if I just use CX then the QFF points are 139,000.

Why is the multi-city engine calculating it as 2 separate awards when the connection is less then 24hrs?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

If you use QF and a partner airline the points are calculated separately with BNE-HKG on the QF table (60,000 pts) and HKG-LAX (104,000 pts) on the partner airline table, whereas if you use CX it'll calculate only from the partner table based on the total mileage (139,000 pts).

Makes sense, thanks for that.

Wanted to give both a try, but I might just stick to CX since it's waaay to hard to find QF awards for 2 to US from Aus!!

CX won't disappoint. It's 100% not worth it to spend extra points to 'try' QF. Plus you have to consider the delays across the QF system recently... see the separate thread elsewhere on AFF... you could 'try' QF only to find yourself missing a good part of the rest of your holiday :(

If you haven't flown CX before, they are a good airline. Just don't expect the same level of friendliness/conversation/interaction you get with QF crew - CX crew are very nice and efficient but you may find them rather more impersonal than many QF crew.

You're saying it like this is a bad thing... Give me a robot army any day.
