Hi

I am booked on QF412 @ 7.30am this Wednesday 17/05 and have tried selecting seats from 80 hours out but most of the seats are blocked and the closest I can get is row 51. Normally I can get pretty close to the front. I called Qantas and they told me up to row 45 is blocked till check in. I have dropped to bronze status due to only flying domestic and using f/f points for some domestic and international last year but even at bronze I can usually get a good seat at T-80. Have they changed how seats are allocated or do you think this is a 1 off blocking all the seats?

Thanks
Maureen

Welcome to the bottom of the ladder :)

I've checked my parents (both bronze) in onlnie before and there were literally only 2 or 3 seats on the whole plane they could pick from.

I am guessing you meant 17th June!

Maybe a sporting team or other large group booked on the flight? As you say it is unusual to not see some seats open up at T-80, but has happened to me at least once. It was a visiting Japanese baseball team and support group!

Oops yes sorry meant June. Monday morning lol.
Thanks that's probably why.

I've been back at bronze since March but can usually still get good seats at T-80. Ok when i'm flying with hubby as he is Platinum so I will be fine on the flight back :)

EF is showing this as being operated with a 332. As an SG it is showing no Y seats north of row 31. No window seats between row 35-49. Window seats are available between rows 50-55 and middle seats pretty much everywhere between row 32-55. Only 6 seats taken in J. Don't know how accurate this info is

The seat map below is what I can see as a WP. All the seats with the "+" sign are available for selections to WP's with quite a few available seats in the forward economy cabin from rows 23 to 35. Seats already occupied have the dash symbol "-" seats that are blocked for airport use ie unavailable for selection are marked "x".

I don't understand what res mean by "up to row 45 is blocked until checkin". The only seats I can see that are blocked which could be unblocked by airport staff are 24ADEFJK, 25A, 45EFJ (exit row) and 56-58EFJK.

Perhaps they mean that as a NB you may be able to get one of those seats on the day however what you can see currently is based on your PCV which comprises your ff tier status and type of fare paid.

I had some interesting experiences with seat maps for my fiancee recently.

It is hit and miss and depends on flights. Sometimes I would vacate 6D for row 4 and I could allocate 6D for her. Other times just a sprinkling of seats down the back.

I noticed on a number of flights recently that T-80 is no longer what it used to be (i.e opening up almost everything available). Now very limited still and seemingly still dependent on status.
