I do some work for MDA Engineers every now and then on projects .... Here is a link to their web site with regards to some VA building works in the pipe line.
Works - about to get underway @ the VA BNE domestic terminal are - In filling the satellite arm 'dough-nut hole' in the same way the QF one was 'filled in' a few years back + 'Regional Lounge' works.
Unsure if that means bring what was the old 'Flight West' regional departure area from the Ansett days down stairs back to life (near the VA valet parking) ...... will try and get a bit more detail.

+ 'Regional Lounge' works.

I was told some time ago that VA intended to reopen those two lower level gates and I assumed it'd be for the ATRs. Let's hope they put in direct lounge access and security screening at the same time (à la SYD).

Drawings I saw indicated the arm donut part is just an in fill - exactly as what happened over on the QF arm a few years back - to provide more space and better paths of travel - reduce that departing / arrival human traffic congestion on the arm that regularly occurs.
Donut floor added- donut turret vaulted up to allow for A/C plant fan coils etc.

Expect regional lounge to the old Flight West area with a bit of extra space again like at the QF end but not as big...... will try and get the heads up on lounge to regional gates path of travel

In other BNE domestic works expect to see a bit of early work on the centre arm upgrade also with a few 'back of house' things you never normally think about.

All contracts are also now let for the major domestic main chiller plant / cooling tower upgrades - expect to see a few significant crane set ups and lifts out the front of the terminal with a bit of disruption late night very early morning this coming winter.

read a rant by a woman on VAtwitter of her indignation on having to 'use stairs' to board her flight because one or two airbridges are out of service during construction... (she obviously never sits in the back half of the aircraft where stairs boarding is the norm!!)

Nor ever visited OOL where the owners deem walking in the rain and using stairs to be part of that wonderful "regional" feeling!

Cracks me up they call it a regional airport when it has direct international departures daily. Meanwhile Hobart International airport gets one international flight a year. Go fgure. They should rename it Byron Bay International Airport....kidding.
