Hi,

I’m just starting to research (so we can book within next 2 weeks) available reward flights. Hubby is taking me to Peru for a special birthday next June & with nearly a million points he says let’s use em & go round the works in business.

So I’ve been reading through the forum, googling flights & using Qantas site to check availability & not getting anywhere - the Qantas site keeps failing when I go into booking.

We’ll be flying mainly LATAM & American Airlines then someone in Europe & Asia back to Sydney.

What’s the best way to find out availability before phoning Qantas to book?

Thank you

Search and search and search and when you've had enough and spent hours at it search some more!
There is no easy way.

If you have status things will be a lot easier.

Search by logging in to qantas site? Happy to search & search - part of the fun of planning a big trip. I’m just a little confused about how I distinguish classic flight reward availability from paying for flights

Yes search Qantas site.

Make sure you check the 'Search Classic Flight Rewards' option.

I've been using Award Flights for simple route searches, it's been a great free tool so far especially with BA login (as you can see how many award seats are available).

Otherwise expertflyer is very good as well but is a subscription service, although I think you can use AFF to gain a member subscription (someone correct me if I'm wrong here).

Thank you - I will check that also. So far my Sydney - chile - peru reward flights look available - happy days so far.

Make sure you search using the multi-city option and keep your dates flexible. If necessary try a dummy run (or several) in Y to get the hang of it.You could also subscribe to Awardnexus and use up your free entitlement.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

thank you that did the trick. Even though I put in the same dates for the millionth time and clicked business, checking those 2 flexible boxes did the trick. All my flights are available on the dates I want.

Qantas just has a terrible terrible site. (hubby says its the engine behind the site and a bunch of other big companies have the same issue). Ya think they'd move on by now.
