Best way to book an American Airlines (ex US) flight

Unfortunately, the rates are per country, you cannot book a flight on another website than US with a departure from US. You can check a return flight from HK to SYD is half than return flight from SYD to HK.

Sorry, I was probably a little vague. I can price the flights I want and get all the way to the payment page, but I am a little concerned by the FAQs which seem to be suggesting that the flight may be "repriced" if my card is from a different country. I just don't want to hit pay on one price, only to have them recalculate based on my country of card issue and not the country I wish to ticket from.

Re: Best way to book an AA (US dom) flight?

Need to book AA flights for Aug., LAX/SFO then LAS/MIA/DFW in Y with restrictions, am I really going to save much buy booking via AA US site than in OZ?.

Also anyone know if any QFF points are made booking these Y flights?.

Depends on the booking class. At least the USA site lets you see the class before committing.

Q & O class on AAflight will not earn anything; most other classes (if they are mentioned below) will.

Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes.

There is a minimum earn for AA flight numbers of 500 QFF points. If the economy class is not Y but earns then SC's earned at the "Discount Economy" rate.

HI

Yes you can earn points and SC. You can't book on the US website because they will wait until the last day to send you an email telling you your credit card is not from US so you must restart the booking from the OZ site.

for information i was credited of SC and points with 24hours.

Several here have successfully booked and flown using the US site.you just have to put in a 5 number zip.I just add a zero to my postcode.Just for interest I looked up 04551 and found that I actually live in Bremen Maine. No wonder I like lobsters.

I've booked using the AA Ipad application, selected country of residence USA,
when it came to billing/credit card details, option is available to select Australia.

Re: Best way to book an AA (US dom) flight?

I tried it on june for a flight between LAX and JFK with an address in LA (my own one) and it was declined because the card was not issued in US. So i will be happy Limewood for your feedback on it.

Thanks for the info.

Just booked the 3 legs in discount economy for AUD$1300, booked via Oneworld, couldn't be bothered going via AA US site for small saving, flights are N and S.

I recently purchased a YUP fare and was able to enter Australia and my own address.

FWIW, I was logged on to my AAdvantage account at the time.

Thank you Serfty.

I tried to book on OZ and US sites with french CC maybe that's why so i had to book on the french one.

Can confirm Serfty's experience and add a bit. ON the US site just booked a multi-city fare for a friend using his Australian credit card. FF number entered was QF. I used all the correct details. Putting the 4 digit post code into the code field caused it to fail. Putting it into the address field and leaving the post/zip code field empty caused it work. We moved from purchased to ticketed in 2 minutes. So if my experience, and Serfty's, is now the norm maybe it is time to bury El Segundo?

Thanks for outlining the nuances of the AA.com online flight reservation system. I tried several times last night to book JFK-EYW using a domestic address, then addresses in the US where I will be staying to no avail. Received an email stating I needed to contact reservations which I did, a 10 min waiting time. Will do the postcode method next time for onward bookings of EYW-MCO and MCO-DCA. Saved me half an hour of time. Life of the ladybug just made simpler!

Well just booked some QF award seats online at AA.com and loving the ability to directly book QF award seats.

Tried to pay using "Aussie" CC with Australia as the country and it failed.

Tried a 5 digit zip code by adding the "0" and it submitted, but then a day later got the email saying I had to contact reservations.

Used the same card again with the El Segundo method and it worked fine.

So might stick with that.

Indeed. Australia has disappeared off the list. One step forward, two steps backward. El Segundo lives again. Hopefully, this will eventually be fixed.
