At the moment SPG starpoints are on sale for 20%. This means i can buy 4000 points for $112. All category four hotels have a points plus pay option of 4000 points plus $60AUD.This in effect means if i buy starpoints i can get category 4 hotels for $172 per night. In most cases this is much cheaper than paying for a hotel via wotif. am i missing something here is is this a great way to get discounted 5 star hotel rooms

the only possible downsides are that some hotels dont offer points + cash or at least not all the time so just check.
Second-i have bought SPG points twice-once they posted immediately but once took a week so if looking at a hotel in the near future might be a problem
