Hi All - would really appreciate some help with this one and can't find an up to date thread for all of these questions.

I'm Velocity platinum and have guaranteed that for 2017 with current status credits. Fly lots domestically within Australia and I'm looking to build useful status for international travel. A recent trip to the US with Virgin Australia has revealed some of the shortcomings of Velocity platinum on international even though domestically it's great. So think I can get to Star Alliance Gold through flying with Virgin Australia code shared with Singapore Airlines through Krisflyer.

Questions are really:

  • Does this make sense - or is there a better use of those Virgin domestic flights?
  • Am I better off switching to QANTAS and building one world status instead?
  • If it is Krisflyer as the best option - do the credit cards award status earning points and if so what's the best card of the many on offer?

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

IIRC VA flights do not award Elite Miles on SQ, so earning status on SQ is pretty difficult flying VA.

Yeah pretty sure that they need to be *A flights.

Now if only VA would join *A...
