I want to get to Vancouver later this year and wondered if anyone can recommend websites that offer specials from airlines flying that route.
Bestflights dot com dot au (still a junior - not allowed to enter links just yet) seems the best I've found so far - anyone suggest any others?

Thanks

Hi there!

If you do find a decent site, please share it with me too. I'm looking to fly to Vancouver in Oct '09. All the sites so far seem to be so expensive for this period, I'm not sure if it's because it's still 9 months away or what the story is.

I've been hunting around bestflights myself but I find their prices appear great but once you read into it, they have some ridiculous service charge, are from Perth or have excessively high taxes :(

Good luck!

Webjet's 'cheapest flights of the month' is a good basic overview of price comparisons/airlines for the destination & dates you select.

There's also an 'international specials' page.

I haven't booked anything using this site directly, but i do use it on a regular basis to check availability of domestic flights across different airlines - then i book directly from the airline site.

webjet - dot - com - dot - au

:)

Also keep checking Air Canada's www site - they often throw specials out, but don't advertise them. The last good one was a few weeks ago - 50% off, good for travel through year end, but was on sale for 2 days only with instant purchase required.

I subscribe to about 4 - 5 online travel agents newsletters (travel.com.au / travelzoo / best flights / expedia etc) and when it comes down to specials they are within $20 of each other, the only difference is often the "speed to market". Best flights usually gets the lead on specials by about 12 - 24 hours (not because they are preferred but they can put the fares online faster), followed by travel.com.au and a few days later with the main street travel agents. Which on real specials can mean the difference between woe and go!

The Australian travel market is so regulated that it is very rare these days to see any agent with an exclusive special that other agents, including online, can't match. travel.com.au won't have a $200 - $500 cheaper special than everyone else for instance on a major carrier. (Yes perhaps on lastminute or distressed inventory but that's getting rarer as well)

Because of the lack of real deal based competition, the last 5 years have seen alot of "mutton dressed as lamb" specials. Which will either be deceiving because of special requirements, hidden taxes or fees (the current best flights MH special) or because its just an everyday airfare via whoop whoop on Dodgy Air with a few dollars off.

The best deals ever are usually airline

1. Launch Deals
2. Anniversary deals

(This is jackpot time, but you have to be vigilant)

The next airline to launch to the US is Delta, keep an eye on their website, sign up for their newsletter. After that will be Jetstar when their 787s arrive.

Good luck and welcome

Just bear in mind with the upcoming Winter Olympics and pre games training camps you will be hard pressed finding any cheap fares after Oct/Nov '09.

I have got friends going over in Jan/Feb '10 and the best deal they could get was flying into Seattle or Calgary (driving from Seatac or a WestJet flight from Calgary) then on to Vancouver.
