Hi all, Just a quick question regarding QF J fares to LAX.

The wife and I are looking to do a white christmas in New York city, December 2013.

I know the last couple of years QF have had a J sale, something like 5k return. Is this something they do on a regualr basis? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Just keep an eye out and see if there is a sale that suits you.

IMHO don't think there will be any specials for travel at peak times like Xmas.

Well actually there was, their most recent J sale (which I did take advantage of for my flight to NY) was anytime up to 30th June 13 with no exclusions. From memory, it was 5K to LAX return albeit only on selected flights

With increasing competition, I can see more of these types of offers

Thanks guys for the responce. I knew that it was something like that Nick.

Lets just hope they do it again and my wife andI can snare our first ever J fares!

Just buy US DM at full price and its approx $4.5k in J or $5.5k in F. You will save 50% off that prices if you buy points during one of their miles promotions ;)

Qantas are kidding themselves trying to charge $8400 for J at the moment!

They are the only ones who are not on sale with Air NZ, Delta, Virgin and United all offering $5500 to $6200 for MEL/SYD to LAX flights

An extra $2000+++ for QF, no thanks!

Well, I can understand a premium against UA and DL, but NZ and DJ both offer comparable product quality.

Thanks for the advice Alanslegal but I want to stick with QF as I'm already a QF FF.

QF have just slightly reduced their pricing over this years Xmas period

01 Dec-16 Jan - $7299 return in J, but the rest of the year is still $8300 ++

Very annoying when Air NZ is $5769 :( with a superior product

Exactly! I just live in hope that the sale fares come around again. If not maybe it's time to look else where for fares to LAX and onto New York.

There is plenty of compitition out there so QF will have to sharpen there pencils at some point.

Well for an extra $5700 (based on current QF vs others) pricing for 2 people I wouldn't be flying Qantas for the points

I'd be going on Air NZ and crediting the points to Velocity but of course you have a stop-over in Auckland which adds a few hours to the trip, but it's a nice airport/lounge
OR
I'd go on Virgin Australia MEL-LAX non-stop and by December 2013 they should have their lounge issues sorted out at LAX (as the moment Virgin have a very poor lounge)

Wow! QF need to exploit this somehow in their marketing. I am amazed at people willing to pay 50% more for something that is pretty much the same (I know different airlines are slightly different). Each to their own I guess but those QFF handcuffs seem to be working well.

Consider going JAL via Tokyo, then dct NY. I just did it to Chicago - was $3500 cheaper than QF in J, and you skip LAX customs.

So Qantas have another sale for Dec/Jan 2012 only again..

All other airlines about $6000 for travel next year
Qantas still $8500 roughly

NOT HAPPY

When I need to get to ORD this is my route.
SYD to NRT then to ORD. True J seat all the way and no LAX customs.
And much cheaper and more SCs but it is a longer trek.
So you could QF to NRT then AA to to the US

In my recent experience, a 2000 Premium for flying QF vs. the vastly inferior products on Delta, United and to a lesser degree Virgin, doesn't sound that unreasonable to me, particularly if you get the A380. Can't really comment on Air NZ but given the hassle of a non-direct flight, at least my company would happily allow going QF for a bit more instead.
