Hi Everyone, I'm after some help with using Qantas frequent flyer points to book business class flights.
We are booked on a cruise from Copenhagen to New York next year and were hoping to fly with an award booking, business class, from Perh to Copenhagen & then New York to Perth. We won't have enough points to do the whole trip business so were thinking business from Singapore to Copenhagen and then New York to Sydney, the Perth legs would be paid for economy flights.
So any suggestions for the most "economical" way to use our points, also we really want to fly Qantas the majority of the way.
Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks

There are far more creative and knowledgable people than me on this forum, whom I'm sure will chip in, but I'll have a shot. :)

If you wish to fly QF most of way then you could either go SIN-FRA on QF, then FRA-CPH some other way, or SIN-LHR on QF, then LHR-CPH on BA (using QF points).

I'm a fan of ASA (Anyseat Awards), which (and apologies if I'm telling you something you already know) are award bookings which earn FF points and Status Credits. They can require a ridiculous number of points, especially when booked not too far out, but often, if you get onto them the day they are released - I think 353 days ahead - (or maybe for a few days after as well) they can be had for not too many more points than the 'classic' award. You can also elect to pay just the 'classic' amount of points and a cash top-up, or somewhere in-between, on a sliding scale. But the good thing about them is the SC earning, especially at J level. I have an FASA MEL-SIN-MEL for next April which cost me ~200K points plus ~$250, as opposed to the classic award which would have been 180K points plus a significant dollar amount in taxes and surcharges (can't tell how much 'cos I don't have enough points left to check). But the FASA will earn me 360 SCs which is more than halfway to a SG retention, and reasonable headroads into WP retention.

Have a 'muck around' and try SIN-CPH in one hit, and then break it up SIN-LHR, LHR-CPH, or SIN-FRA, then FRA-CPH as individual legs and see what somes out.

For NYC-SYD, you have athe choice of QF all the way via LAX, or AA NYC-LAX or DFW, then QF from either of those cities.

As I said, there are probably more creative ways than this, but it's certainly worth a look.
