Hi All,

Rather than freeze our proverbials off at the snow (assuming there is any left) in September I thought for a few bux more we might be able to get to a family friendly Asian destination. Hoping for a week in either Hong Kong, Malaysia or coughet (although might be out of budget?). 2 adults and one 6 year old travelling.

Hong Kong has Disneyland, Ocean Park, etc, is easy to get around and somewhere we (pre-child) have visited and enjoyed several times already.

Malaysia (KL/Penang) has Petronas Towers, Legoland and Penang Hill, Upside Down Museum, etc, and will be totally new for all 3 of us. My son is Lego mad so a day at Legoland would be very exciting for all of us.

Edit: will consider other destinations if they fit the bill too!

Are Airbnb rooms/studios a viable option, they seem VERY well priced compared to hotels in places like KL - ie half the cost?

Singapore? Senota island or something like that for the kids and you can road trip to Legoland, its about a 45min drive but Im wondering if there are buses as its so popular.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would look at Japan and Singapore both easy to get around and lots to do for children.

Surprisingly Hua Hin also offers something for kids now with 2 water parks.

Some nice drives into the mountains too.

Yes there a buses that do day trips. It's a bit of a long drive (due to border crossing), but better on weekdays than weekends. Also can overnight there (my brother has done both day trip and overnight there, and said it was much better overnighting there). Unless you fly, or it's a Saturday morning, Legoland should be quicker to reach from Singapore than from KL.

coughet has such a range of accommodation, that it also shouldn't be too expensive, and there are probably enough activities (plus swimming pools) to keep a 6 yo entertained for a few days.

But with any of the suggested destinations, can't go wrong, whether it be KL/Penang (would need to be both, not just one), coughet, Hong Kong, Singapore, or Japan. These are good intro's to Asia.

Thanks for all the replies and info, we have spent a few days in Singapore before (childless) and enjoyed it. Malaysia attracted me for the food options but I suppose Singapore offers a similar (if not quite as wide) experience of cuisines. I will look at Singapore and the day trip option to Legoland in more detail - and I see flights between KL/Penang/Singapore are very cheap so there's an option of a longer stay and visiting them. No idea why I thought Legoland was in Penang when it's just across the water from Singapore.

Singapore being a more common Qantas direct route, maybe I'll be able to get reward returns using my points! Cheers.

I also suggest Japan.
So much to do and the bonuses are a great cultural experience, reasonably priced accommodation and cheap meals!

If you go to Legoland, stay the night. The hotel is amazing and we found it worth the $$$. Our kids had a blast and we could've stayed 2 nights.
We hired a private driver to cross from Singapore to Malaysia and it took about 1.5 hours from the city.
