From Brisbane. I would have been up for another 12,000 points (i think from memory) which would have been fine. But what they were telling me is I would have to forfeit ALL the points from my original booking OR cancel the original booking....make a new fresh booking but it would take a week plus for the points to be redeposited. Also to add to the confusion I was being told that to change an existing award the availability I was seeing on line was for a fresh booking not would be available for an amended existing booking. i am new to Krisflyer I hope in time I get the hang of it all. During the time it was taking to try and get the info needed the availability I was seeing evaporated anyway.
Very confusing!
In general there should be no difference in availability for new or existing bookings. If you see new availability you can use that for either upgrading or changing or whatever. It
might be the case in some circumstances that availability on a single sector could be married... and you can/can't marry that availability with your existing booking. But if business class showed all the way through from BNE to DPS it should be available for you to take.
The rules for Kris Flyer (see their terms and conditions) confirm changes to existing awards are possible however if the new award is
lower in price you forfeit the additional miles unless you go down the cancel and re-book avenue.
If the new award is
higher in price you simply pay the additional miles required.
If the seats are still there and you want to take them, I'd call back and see what they say.
From krisflyer Ts and Cs (para 11 from 'using miles'):
11. An award ticket may be reissued, but only for travel by the same person and provided no part of the award ticket has been used. Additional KrisFlyer miles may be applicable. If the new journey requires fewer KrisFlyer miles, the excess cannot be refunded. The award ticket at the point of reissue must still be valid. There will be a reissue fee for each ticket. The reissued ticket must have the same expiry date as the original ticket and it must be for the same airline. However, if the date of the first flight on the reissued ticket is earlier than that of the original ticket, then the expiry date of the reissued ticket will be readjusted to the earlier date accordingly.
