Hello experts!

I have recently found out the wife and I need to attend a wedding in Oslo in June.

Wondering if people have suggestions for the best way to get directly from Melb to Norway i.e. least stopovers, shortest total time?

Is it possible to fly direct from Singapore or Hong Kong or even the middle east? Is via Heathrow a bad idea?

Not that fussy on which airline, as long as it has a decent long haul economy product and wont break the bank.

Any suggestions on the best way to/from Norway?

Thanks in advance...

Without knowing the dates in June you're planning on travelling....I've typed in some random dates in June..
Cheapest is $1630 with China Southern...which stops in China and Amsterdam
British Airways which stops at HKG and LHR for $1800
Qatar seems to be the shortest from what I've found so far...with only one stop in Doha and then direct to Oslo for $2100

From May 2013 Norwegian Air Shuttle will start direct flights between Oslo and Bangkok (a new Boeing 787 service) - so if you can get to Bangkok easily and/or cheaply and the connection times work that could be the fastest way to Oslo.

Finair is also showing ~1700USD with stops in Singapore and Helsinki. Total travel time 27 hours. Norwegian air looks to be approx $850-900 USD if you want one peice of luggage as well for BKK>OSL return, however they only fly on a few days so you would have to match up the dates/times.

For $100 more you could with QF to LHR and then OSL with BA for roughly the same time. I guess it depends if the OP wants QF points? I guess you might get more SC's with Finair, just depends on Flight numbers but the OP would definitely get more QFF points going via DXB with QF.

You could alway test the new QF Emirates codeshare.

I trialled a few date
s and the date changed some of the costs buy a few hundred dollars.

Dates would help to give you a accurate pricing.

Thanks all for the replies. Still waiting on exact wedding date myself to book flights! Didn't think of going emerites with QF codeshare, could be a good option!

I wonder about going Melb to Frankfurt and having German Holiday, then simply shuttling up to Oslo from germany for the wedding.

Argh so many choices!!!

Depends where you are in Germany. Ryanair has services from Bremen to Olso (Torp) and Frankfurt (Hahn), maybe more but I have been on both. The Bremen service is easier because it departs close to the city of Bremen. However Torp/Oslo is closer to Sandefjord then Oslo.
