Apologies if this question has been asked somewhere else - am wondering... Does anybody know whether there's a better chance of points upgrade on QF11 SYD-LAX or QF7 SYD-DFW? I'll be travelling through to NYC, but trying to decide whether via LAX or DFW is better. I'm a WP, flying on a Tuesday in Jan ex SYD.

Also... returning, will spend a few days in LA, and wondering whether QF12 or QF18 has better chance of points upgrade (flying on a Sunday - I know midweek is better).

Thanks for Help

This is such a hypothetical question it is very difficult to answer especially this far out. Even more difficult as you haven't specified which cabin you want to upgrade from/to.
However the upgrade fairy informs me that at this stage everyone who has requested an upgrade on QF11 this coming Tuesday looks like being successful although it's very tight.
There is no QF7 on Tuesday but on Wednesday there will be a lot of disappointed PAX.
On Monday there will be disappointed PAX who were hoping to fly in J but availability in F.
On Sunday 27 October there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth in the cattle pens on QF12.
It will be even worse on QAF16 to BNE.
There is no QF18 next week so I assume it is seasonal.
On QF18 on 19 January there is already effectively no chance of an upgrade higher than PE and some of those seats might go to PAX who have requested an upgrade to J but have agreed to accept an upgrade to PE if J is unavailable.
QF12 looks much better on 19 January so based on these two data points that might be your better option.
Although the most important factor will be your QFF status.

Thanks that's some useful data. Sorry, upgrade is Y to J (flex economy ticket), but to PE if no J available I guess. I did say my status - WP! :)

Sorry I didn't notice. That improves your chances in all scenarios.

How long is a piece of string? WP definitely helps a great deal, and if one pax again it helps. However one should also think of the days of the week one plans to travel and when is possibly less likely to be paid travel (eg: usually mid week has a bit less paid demand in J).. as for which route... well.. again.. it all depends.

re LAX-SYD I'd note that LAX-BNE seems to have lower loads overall so would you consider routing LAX-BNE-SYD for an upgrade? it may be an option.

Another possible thing to look out for is as the A380 fleet gets refurbished there's going to be a change in capacity between the two configs and if there are late swaps this could affect (foir better or worse) the availability of award space - specially at last minute.

If ur able to find out how many seats are available in the other classes, there is a possibility of an upgrade. I guess ask them at the desk and fingers crossed you get it!
