Hi all,

Heading over to Queenstown from Brisbane with the other half shortly in business class on 737-800.

Don't know which row to select seats in. First or second row? What are the thoughts of those who have previously done this trip?

Thanks so much.

Really much of a muchness on the 737 I think. I tend to prefer the 2nd row, but I was upgraded to 1F just the other day and that was certainly an ok seat. I really don't think it matters and you'd have to be 6'4" I think to start being affected by the bulkhead. Certainly better than doing it in rows 4-29 but I'd be happy enough with 3A or 3F as well. In fact I've done 3+ hours in VA Y and on one trip, did it to DPS in Row 3 and it wasn't too bad.

Ive recently flown BNE>WGE and had row 1 both times, hubby likes row 1 because no one reclines into us

Pro:
No one reclines into us

Con:
Might have more leg room in row 2 to stretch out

Hopefully your plane will have power points - ours did but not all 737 do.

Row 2 has more leg room in my opinion, plus extra storage underneath seat if needed, and you don't feel bad about reclining into anyone.

Often (but not always) row 1 will be served first and on occasion in row 2 I've missed out on my first meal preference. But as others note, there really isn't much between them.

I find that you can get out of the row 1 window seat more easily (i.e. without disturbing your neighbour). You also get served first, although you lose some of the legroom you would have under the seat in front being at the bulkhead.

Personally my pick is row 1 but there's not a huge difference.

Thanks everyone for your replies and advice. It seems there's not much difference either way.

Will probably be doing the trip a few times each year, so we will no doubt get to form our own opinion.

Will probably try row 2 this time.

Thanks again

I prefer row 1. I'm usually 1A or 1C.

Row 2 I don't mind if I'm in the aisle, but it can get pretty cramped if the seat in front reclines.

Thanks Ewing, good to know.

As it turns out, I just rang VA and there were only 2A and 2C left.

Gah, just realised I was in the wrong forum (I thought I was in QF) - my apologies.

Edited my post a bit as IFE isn't relevant. The rest of my post is still accurate though (I've done both VA and QF trans tasman in Business many times).

Don't worry - I made exactly the same mistake! I also had to edit my post yesterday to make it relevant to VA as my original post also mentioned the IFE stowage issue in row one.

This is probably superficial but I loved row 2 as it offered all round more space. I could see over the seat in front, waaaay behind me if I chose, and all the window views I could ask for. We never felt second best to row 1 with regard to meals/drinks etc. I would choose row 2 every time but understand that everyone has their own box to tick.

The only row that beats it - is any business seat on the 777!

I prefer Row 2. There is more room and you can recline without having to worry about the person behind. It's where they hang the jackets and of course the divider between J and Y

I recline now without worrying about the person behind me.... although I do wonder if one day it will be JohnK back there :)

I do always check behind before I slowly recline, but that doesnt stop me, thats what the chair was made to do
