Honda Australia have issued buyback for my parents' CRV, for a pittance but they cant drive the car so I'm looking for new small SUV for them. Notwithstanding any Covid19 effects on already slow car market, wondering if any AFFs have recently bought something they happy with specs/price wise. Been looking at Seltos Sport+, ASX, XV, MG, Kona, mx03 and prob Seltos best of lot. Grateful opinions. Cheers Tropic

Everyone forgets about it, but test drive the new Suzuki Vitara as well, it has the nicest driving position and visibility in the entire market and a traditional auto gearbox, not a horrible droning CVT.

Yeah saw a review on youtube. Will have a look. Thanks EW.

Everyone is too busy panicking to talk about cars..
My only contribution is that these days cars are generally made to a very high standard.
This allows selection based upon personal likes rather than worrying about reliability.

Walked into a dealership yesterday - yeah, they look a little distressed. Good time to buy.

For my mum to drive recently got her an ASX.

I wouldn’t got for the MG as Chinese made and stay away from Subaru’s unless you’re and enthusiast as the boxer motors don’t seem to have the longevity.

Would consider the Kona but the Mazda is a bit smaller in the back.

Also, I wanted something with a full size spare wheel.

So the ASX met the criteria and also sharply priced as the oldest of the designs I looked at but still functional and presentable. So thought good value for money.

Yep. The second type though. Honda first to do buyback but other makes coming soon apparently.

Thanks all. Going to do the walk around tomorrow.

My sister has recently bought the top of line Seltos. She‘s very happy with it (coming from recent VW). I had a look at one before she purchased, and was quite impressed, especially for the price. She has the model with the DSG gearbox, we all hate the CVTs.

Love my Subaru XV but Ive been driving Subarus for 25+yrs. Only disappointment is its an automatic as I miss driving a manual car and if you want guts to race someone off at the lights, this isnt the car for you so test drive up a hill while trying to increase speed is my advice (because Im comparing it to my last car which was an Outback). But overall, it feels good, looks good, has nice features and I was suprised by the room in the back and you can put the seats down.

Think we had a ASX and a Xtrail on our last hire in NZ and happy with both.

We went looking for a small SUV last year and looked at the Kona, HRV, CHR and CX-3. Given your parents had the CRV, I'm guessing the things we looked at were smaller again. But we settled on the Mazda CX-3 and are loving it.

That's not a car thread, THIS is a car thread...
OK TBF that is a car thread, but it just deals with what cars people drive. This thread seeks opinions on a specific vehicle segment.

And has a full sized spare.
I looked at the RAV4 for the hybrid which would give me similar 91Ron fuel economy compared with a diesel but the CVT and space saver is a turnoff.
Is a RAV4 a small SUV?

According to the various car review sites it apparently is a mid-sized SUV.

Seltos Sport+ 2.0L FWD CVT seems to be the sweet spot but according to every dealer up to 4 month wait in WA, plus further delay subject to what happens with Covid19... ASX looked OKish as did the Subaru XV. Others not so much but still to see the mazda.
