Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

Don't forget their are more providers available then Telstra.

Do some dummy transactions with either an actual credit card, or other bank issued debit card to find any new providers to add to the current list.

What's the current list now anyway? Telstra, Energy Australia, Sydney Water (but not advisable because they'll call you up and yell at you). Is that all? Does Optus/Virgin still work?

If they did that, you should report them to an ombudsman or consumer affairs, or some other consumer rights organisation.

Optus still works, but only for a maximum of 10 payments in 24 hours. There's also Yarra Valley Water in Melbourne with a minimum of $1 or 1¢, if you pay from within your account (painful).

I was paying a water bill yesterday and had made only 2 successful payments. It then reported that my card was a blocked card. I was then unable to make any payments with Telstra, using that card. I thought it was possible that unsuccessful payments were being counted too, so I had hit the card limit. But the card doesn't work with Telstra today, either.

I haven't had any communication from either the water company or BW about this card or my payments, so I'm a bit unsure what's happened, but it seems BW may be blocking the use of this card.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Any suggestions about what I should do, to get this card working again without losing my other card in the process.

Hm, methinks you may be shortly getting a letter from BW.

You could go and ask for a replacement card as your card "isn't working" maybe.

Yes, it happened to me. It seems BW starts blocking cards due to "unusual activity" but I have managed to get my card back in operation.
It involved using my other card (which surprisingly was not blocked) for "normal" transactions doing everyday shopping and paying bills for app 3 weeks - no 1c transactions AT ALL!
Then, when after that my latest BW statement looked nice and tidy I stopped all activities with BW account for about a week. When I visited a branch after that reporting blocked card the teller saw only my latest statement on the screen with a lot of normal everyday spending, then nothing within last week (proving the card was blocked in that time). Fortunately they do not see the number of the card used for all transactions. She asked me for my ID and re-activated the card.

If my second card wasn't working also, I would expect contact from BW, but since it is, I may have lost the blocked card, and as such, need it to be replaced (IN A BRANCH).

IF BW was doing that I'm sure I would have seen others report it in this thread.

I suspect the water company may have reported the 'suspicious' card activity to BW, and BW has blocked the card as a precaution. What's weird is the water company hasn't had any problem with the other 3 cards I used (touch wood, cross fingers, etc.)!

I had a missed call and voice message from the local BWA branch asking me to call them back. This card is the only reason I can think they would call me but I'll try it later and see if it works before I call them back.

Still working fine, about half way through my 50 TXs. No messages in bankwest online banking either.

I wonder if sydney water have kicked up a bit of a fuss with bankwest?

Not having any issues with Telstra at the moment. It seems to be the only safe bet.

I have no issues handing out my Telstra account number if people want to make payments and collect the points

Seems I'm a bit late to this scheme but just to clarify it's the bankwest debit mastercard that I would need to apply for right?

No, not even a debit card.

Open a BankWest qantas transaction account. It automatically comes with a card.
