BA online upgrades - when?

I know from time to time it's possible to pay for upgrades on BA.com

From past experience, does anyone know if there's a particular pattern as to when the option is available?

I've booked 2 European flights for later this year, but the upgrade option isn't available.

I think a week out is when I've seen them... If not booked through BA directly, the only time you're likely to be offered one is during check-in.

Booked directly with BA but over the phone.

Their ticket stock, so hopefully it will come up at some point.
