British Airways may revive Qantas tie-up plans

Sage advice offered by an analyst:

Sage advice offered by an analyst said:
``If I were Qantas, I wouldn't consider giving up control of my future to British Airways,'' said Jim Eckes, managing director of Hong Kong-based Indoswiss Aviation. ``The financial condition of Qantas is much better than that of British Airways, which is in a sad shape and getting worse each month.'

Personally I think this report could have been better written like this-
'BA asks Qantas-are you still interested because we would like you to take us over as we are in dire straits'

I’d have thought BA had enough on it’s plate already without trying to take down more airlines with it.

I can see the usefulness of sharing maintenance costs between the UK and Spain, but all the way down to Australia? They already work closely enough with Qantas so I doubt a future merger would save much more money.

Ba could own every airline in the world if it liked… as long as it fixes it’s current pension issues, and that really is the problem.

And this:

Airlines need more cross-border consolidation to cure a “sick” industry struggling to reverse losses, the International Air Transport Association said on Nov. 16.

Yes, Qantas didn’t make as much recently, but they didn’t post a loss like many other airlines, so it seems that they’re actually already in a good spot, why mess with that?
