Sorry everyone, I have searched but have been unable to find a definitive answer:

If I were to fly HKG-LHR in F on BA, would I have access to CX's Wing/Pier lounges in HKG? I have no OW status.

It is possible that I might arrive at HKG some 10 hours before my departure. Would I be able to check-in that early?

Thanks in advance,

Rich

Departing HKG in F on any OW airline will entitle you to Wing / Pier F lounge access.

When you say arriving, are you transitting?

If transitting and you have checked luggage through you should be able to obtain a BP from the transfer desk at HKG.

If not then I am not sure what time BA checkin opens at HKG. The other option if coming from the city is to use the central check-in facility

Your BA F bp, and any OW F bp, will get you access to the F side of the Wing/Pier.

Not sure about your 2nd question unfortunately, but you could always do an early in-town check in at Kowloon or Central, and kill some time in the city before heading to the airport.

Flying F on BA from HKG would give you (and 1 guest) access to "the wing".

By using the Airport Express and ITCI (In town check in), you can get your BP, jump on the next train (every 6 minutes), go through emigration and attain access to the wing 10 hours before your flight (on the day of travel).

It is very unlikely that BA checkin would be open 10 hours before departure - it might only be open if there was another BA flight leaving soon after the time you wanted to checkin. If that's the case, they may accept your bags.

If not, in town checkin would be the best bet.

I have just had a last minute change in schedule, so rather than flying PVG-HKG-SYD-MEL I am now flying NNG-HKG-SYD-MEL.

NNG-HKG will be on CZ.

I will arrive in HKG at 1:10pm - too early for QF checkin. Would the QF transfer desk be open or do I also need to do the quick trip into town to get my BP and then back to the Wing?

Might do the trip into the city anyway just to pass some time.

Thanks for the prompt replies everyone, glad to hear I will have access.

Guess I will also go for the ITCI.

Given the general perception here that the CX lounges are infinitely superior to the BA/QF one, one wonder whys anyone flying F would bother with them! My only guess is they do not know they have access to the Wing or the Pier.

Thanks again.

People want different things from their lounge experience. The QF lounge is close to the QF gates - I have actually used it for that reason. The QF lounge can help with seats etc (although I have asked the CX lounge staff to call QF to sort things for me ;)).

One time travelling with a colleague of mine he actually found the CX lounge a little boring - no hum of activity. I terminated his employment shortly after that ;)

Only if you have staus with a one world airline, not if you are on a paid ticket, its spelled out here:

Cathay Pacific - At The Airport : Lounges
Status is irrelevant when flying F, whether using a paid ticket or a mileage redemption, on ANY oneworld carrier.

oneworld - Lounge Access

oneworld - Lounge Access

You're even allowed 1 guest with an F bp.

The Wing/Pier F lounges are defined as F lounges for the purposes of access under oneworld policy:
oneworld - Search for a oneworld Lounge

I just checked the OW site as well - it doesnt actually say ANY lounge so you could have a bad day.

dubno,

Just to confirm. I flew HKG - LHR on BA earlier this year and checkin at the airport only opened 3 hrs before the flight so checkin at 'Central' seems to be the go.

Mind you if I had 10 hrs to kill in HKG I'd be off doing something for part of that time. Lounges are good/great BUT 10 hrs would drive me mad.

I have been refused last year by CX and told the One World benefit relates only to the lounge of the airline you are flying with and to go to the QF lounge as I had no status on the boarding past. I was let in once the WP card was verified, hence my post, under CX reference no, but you might be lucky!

Mind you I was also refused entry to the QF SIN lounge off QF31 at 2AM in the morning despite showing a onward booking with CX in 12 hours time, things happen!
