I might be here for longer than planned........
We are sorry to inform you that your flight from Cairo to London Heathrow has been cancelled.
We constantly review our security arrangements at all our airports around the world and have suspended flights to Cairo for seven days as a precaution to allow for further assessment.
The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our priority, and we would never operate an aircraft unless it was safe to do so.
We apologise for the disruption to your journey. To discuss your options, please contact us. Contact numbers can be found online at www.ba.com/contactus. Alternatively, please contact us on +44 203 250 0145. If you booked through a travel agent, please contact your agent.
We apologise for the disruption this has caused.

I was offered flights via Accra or Lagos to get back earlier, but they were rather long connections and would mean an overnight flight. Not worth it for the extra TP..! Blasphemy, I know, but I've well and truly requalified OWE so don't need them.

I wonder what BA and Lufthansa (who have followed suit) know about the security situation in Cairo, Seems strange that they can be relatively sure it will be resolved within a week? Perhaps they need to put some pressure on authorities to fix an identified security lapse or threat?

LH seem to only have cancelled today's flight, although that doesn't say future days won't follow....

The UK government added the below message to their foreign travel advice website the other day:

There’s a heightened risk of terrorism against aviation. Additional security measures are in place for flights departing from Egypt to the UK. You should co-operate fully with security officials at airports.

Egypt travel advice

It seems like this would be related to the BA/Lufthansa cancellations.

Yes but it seems to be airline led rather than FCO led.

Didn't end up making the cut, a last minute stabbing took priority according to the producer. Oh well!

Might yet be longer than you think ...

Fortunately the earliest date of action will be before I'm back!

Work, but may as well throw in a bit of pleasure too with the extra time!

So, 2 flights have come and gone so looks all good. When I was rebooked my flight was the first one originally, so I guess they decided they'd start earlier instead a few days later. Free upgrade to Club World (J) so not sure if that's as a gesture or due to overbooking; maybe a bit of both.
