Not happy Jan. Have been waiting for award seat availability to San Francisco to open up for June next year. Transferred all my points to MrP's account who is WP and (I have dropped back to silver thanks to health issues and no Qantas love.) We are 8000 points shy so today called up to purchase the top up points - $250 cost.

And I cant do it! They need to speak to MrP to buy $250 lousy points. All right, I will transfer all his points back to me (but probably cant do that because of limits). But guess what, in my silver account I cannot see those Award seats in J, just Y. So that doesnt even work.

MrP is currently on a Qantas bird and does not have the chance, on a business day, to wait in phone queues to speak to them.

I have used the premium lines multiple times to organise his business travel, but to purchase top up points you have to speak to another area - the service centre. Different section, different people.

Why on earth cant we buy the specific top up points online - the same limits can be in place? And I guess given he and I are both to be booked on this award flight, and we have only been joint members for years, and I am on his list to get SG if he earns extra credits as WP and have received SG as a result, well, it all must sound fishy to them.

So peeved right now.

Is there a reason why you can't buy the 7000 points and transfer them to Mr. P?
FYI Qantas have also increased the transfer limit to 600,000 pa.

I could do that but Qantas only lets you buy points in relation to specific Award flights. And I can't buy them in my account because I cant see the Award availability like I can see in his WP account.

Thanks for confirming the possibility of the points transfer - if only I could see the same availability in my account as his!

Do you actually have to specify the flight you want to book? I've never topped up QF points....

Why not call as MrP? just use his PIN and off you go. If they question how you sound (I'm assuming!) just get indignant.

Ha ha, thats funny. Yes BC - they need to be for a specific award flight you are trying to book and cant - have no idea why they would make it that hard - it is completely unnecessary!

Last couple of times I've bought my top-up points from Epiqure. Fewer restrictions.

Oh. Wow. The generosity of certain people here astounds me.
All sorted and we are on our way!

Ditto! Right now, those 8000 points can be had via a couple of very nice wines for $270, you get your 8000 points and a bonus case of wine! :)

So even though I booked in MrP's account his Frequent Flyer number didnt appear in the booking but mine did. This meant I couldnt access all available seats as my status is only silver. And his was zilch! Even though I was accessing the booking through MrP's account. Weird. Anyway, I remembered Tom Vexville told me about using Finnair to fix the problem. Went into Finnair and his FF number was there - I proceeded to 'amend' anyway and then logged back into Qantas. Sure enough, the status was showing correctly and we now had full access.

So next question, which seat? Upper or lower. No first class on this flight so picked 3J and 3K based on a quick search here.

I loved the Airbus380 upper deck.
My love affair lasted a mere 7.5 hrs, all on EK.
One in F and one in J.
I do realise your flight will be on a QF bird tho.
Edit: ah 747. SFO - I see.
Have done that in J and Y. BNE - SYD in J and PER - SYD in Y.
Long ago now.
Definitely still J upstairs.

1) QF actually allow award bookings to be held in such scenarios for up to 72 hours. We have done this more than once.
2) QF allow you to book using a family member or spouse's account as long as you know the PIN. They will only call to verify cc authority over the phone. No issue if you use your own.

She did mention upper or lower though.
Sure she and hubby won't or can't go into "basement".

Yep, on 747. We were up there on a trip to HK, upgraded from Y+ with points. Very nice and quiet. But have decided to imagine I am in the pointy 'old first' end.

Upper, Upper, Upper oops did i just repeat myself out loud  how embarrassing.

Recommend upstairs, exit row 14. Upstairs front row is next to the toilet, downstairs is so common and up front is next to cubboards

Ah. But someone else said the cupboards were for passengers. Might need to do some more searching.
