Hi there,

Family and I are travelling via award booking with QF : Mel - Sin
Then a few days later JQ : SIN - HKT
Question is as we booked awards what are the rules with baggage and infants.
We’ve travelled with QF and an extra bag was allowed for our child due to food nappies etc for check in, however this time I’m concerned it’s not the case as Jetstar are so .... well let’s say stringent.
I wonder also if we can have a nappy bag on board for our son too actually?!

Economy SIN - HKT (all I know 20kg)?
Business HKT - MEL (30kg)?

Hope someone can help as I need to start packing before we take off next week! Lol

On the e-ticket there is a section that details the baggage allowance by Sector.

Last time I check Jetstar redemptions via QF did include baggage

Thanks albaross710, true. We checked ticket and it said 20/30 respectively.
After doing a bit more research it says no extra bag allowed for child? I find that really odd when the kid needs food, nappies clothing of their own. Where do we pack it all when we have all our own luggage too?
Also seems can’t take nappy bag on board, has to be part of our carry on for ourselves! We have a 9 year old also so this is going to be interesting.
Hope I’ve read it wrong and we can have a luggage for his food etc and nappy bag for carry on.....

Hello,

Done a few JQ flights with an infant, assume the same rules apply for 3K.

You are correct in no additional carry-on baggage, however there may be some flexibility if you are reasonable (between 2 adults an an infant we were able to take on board 2 backpacks, nappy bag, baby carrier and a fold up stroller without issue). Don't ask or mention at check in (better yet see if you can use the automated check in at Changi) and hopefully the gate agents/flight attendants will be fine with extras.

Keep in mind infant items (car seat, pram, bassinets, highchair) can be checked in free of charge, and do not contribute to the weight limits each person has. A trick here that we have used is to stuff the bag we have for the car seat with extra items to get our total luggage under the weight limit.

Qantas in business you could carry a bedroom full of gear and they wouldn't be saying a thing (recent SIN - MEL flight we took 3 backpacks, handbag, stroller, baby carrier and nappy bag, and we were in economy).

Hi Dr Goz! Thank you!!
Ok cool. Might call Qantas/Jetstar and ask the deal too incase... already rang for bassinet request on flight home so we’ll see how we go with bags. Just hate the whole calculating bags etc. I understand why, however with an infant it’s never so easy. Qantas never an issue, I just know what Jetstar can be like and being platinum makes no difference, so I want to be sure. 🤞🏼

well actually Platinum does make a difference..which is why as an experienced traveller you know to do all the research before you get to the airport.

Not like the fliers that make appearances on those trashy airport shows when they turn up babe in arms and the stroller or something doesn't make it.
